Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen to lead on the development and delivery of our Midwifery preceptorship programme at PRH & RSCH. It is a development opportunity for a band 7 Midwife to support newly qualified midwives undertaking the midwifery Preceptorship Programme. Do you have a passion for supporting newly qualified midwives with an outstanding education programme?
As part of this role you will continue to deliver and further develop the midwifery preceptorship programme across UH Sussex.
It is a seconded, full time position, for 12 months @ Princess Royal and RSCH.
Please note that if you currently work for another NHS Trust or UHSussex and you are applying to accept this position as a secondment opportunity, before applying you must seek agreement and authorisation from your current Trust/Manager. Secondments can’t be agreed without this approval. If you are unable to gain approval you should refrain from applying unless you wish to take this role as a fixed term position.
Main duties of the job
This is a key role in developing and maintaining a high quality preceptorship programme for newly qualified midwives. The post holder will also support newly qualified midwives in the clinical setting during their preceptorship period.
The post holder will be responsible for the design and provision of the education requirements within the preceptorship programme in direct relation to current local and national themes and risks. The post holder will work clinically supporting the preceptees to complete the clinical skills required of the programme to advance to a band 6 midwife. The post holder will work directly with the practice education facilitator and the practice development team.
The post holder will work strategically with outside agencies to ensure all pathways are relevant and current.
The post holder will work closely with the practice education facilitators to recruit students into band 5 positions and then support their ongoing development towards band 6 roles.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Communication
- Communicate and liaise with the multidisciplinary team, providing a unified approach to education and practice development across sites.
- Provide and receive complex, sensitive or contentious information
- Build relationships with members of the multi-disciplinary team and practice development in implementation of changes in practice.
- Represent the directorate at meetings with partner agencies both internal and external. Make a key contribution to relevant trust forums and meetings.
- Communicate service-related information to senior managers and deliver formal presentations.
- To work in collaboration with relevant personnel to ensure the preceptees voice is heard.
- Reports all incidents, complaints or accidents to comply with trust guidance and assist and support in the investigation and resolution of the same. Review all incidents involving preceptees.
Service Delivery and Improvement
- To act as an advocate preceptee midwives
- To foster and develop and open, facilitative learning environment within the clinical area
- Provide a visible, accessible presence, acting as a professional role model by providing leadership and support within multidisciplinary and midwife team meetings where necessary in relation the preceptorship programme

- Assessor/mentorship course or equivalent

- Masters in Midwifery
- Leadership / management course or equivalent
