At Rye, Winchelsea and District Memorial Hospital we offer outpatients, rehabilitation and intermediate services. At Uckfield Community Hospital we provide day surgery and outpatient care.

In the community, we deliver services that focus on people with long term conditions living well outside hospital, through our integrated locality teams working with district and community nursing teams. Community members of staff also provide care to patients in their homes and from a number of clinics, health centres and GP surgeries.

 

Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for Specialist band 6 Occupational Therapists to work either within our Acute Stroke team as a static specialist band 6 Occupational Therapist or as part of a specialised Stroke rotation,  working in the Acute, Community and Intermediate Care settings.

We would welcome applications from those considering band 5-6 developer roles. 

You will work within a broad multi-disciplinary team including an Advanced Clinical Practitioner, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language, Dieticians and Specialist Stroke nurses, all providing a high level of rehabilitation to patients following an acute stroke.

As part of the Acute Stroke therapy department, you will be joining a large supportive team who are passionate about caring for the residents of East Sussex.

Main duties of the job

To provide a specialist Occupational Therapy Service to Stroke patients as delegated and directed by the Stroke OT Team Leads.

To be responsible for a delegated caseload of patients, to assess patient needs, plan intervention and evaluate patient care within objectives, protocols and procedures of the service.

To promote integrated, multidisciplinary working practices that supports a seamless transition of care.

To support the Team Lead OT, Advanced Clinical Practitioner  in Stroke Rehab, Professional Lead OT and Service Manager with service development, helping to implement policy and policy changes and to set and monitor standards of practice.

To delegate work to and assist in the supervision of band 5 OT, OT apprentice and OT support staff, providing training as required.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree or diploma in Occupational Therapy.
  • Current registration with HCPC.
  • Postgraduate qualification or evidence of relevant post-qualification professional development
Desirable criteria
  • Specialist postgraduate qualification
  • Practice Placement Education Certificate

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant rotational experience
  • Experience in Acute setting
  • Experience of Neurological conditions
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of multi-professional working.

Skills

  • Evidence of continued professional development in previous year.
