In the summer of 2020, the Trust launched its ambitious ‘Building for our Future’ (BFF) programme. This once in a lifetime programme aims to redevelop and expand our hospitals at Eastbourne, Hastings and Bexhill, transforming the environment in which we provide care for generations to come.

Our centre for trauma services and obstetrics is at Conquest Hospital, while our centre for urology and stroke services is at Eastbourne DGH. At Bexhill Hospital we offer a range of outpatient, day surgery, rehabilitation and intermediate care services. At Rye, Winchelsea and District Memorial Hospital we offer outpatients, rehabilitation and intermediate services. At Uckfield Community Hospital we provide day surgery and outpatient care.
In the community, we deliver services that focus on people with long term conditions living well outside hospital, through our integrated locality teams working with district and community nursing teams. Community members of staff also provide care to patients in their homes and from a number of clinics, health centres and GP surgeries.
Job overview
East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust is a fully integrated acute and community healthcare provider, delivering services throughout East Sussex. The variety of rotations and opportunities to work cross county provides an ideal platform for band 5 physiotherapists to develop a wide range of skills to be successful within their chosen career.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicants will participate in our six-monthly rotation scheme and will have the opportunity to work across a range of acute, intermediate rehab and community settings. The role involves close working with other members of the MDT and requires motivation and skill to deliver the high-quality services to the local population. Rotations on offer include respiratory, MSK outpatients (including aquatic therapy), neurology (including ABI and stroke rehabilitation), orthopaedics, amputee management, joint community rehabilitation, and rehabilitative services.
There is a comprehensive in-service education programme within the physiotherapy service and staff are encouraged to attend postgraduate courses. New graduates will be supported through the AHP preceptorship programme led by the Practice Educator team and additional support can be offered by the Pastoral Support Officer.
Due to our proactive recruitment process we welcome applications from BSc and MSc students who are due to complete their physiotherapy course in 2024.

Essential criteria
- Degree or diploma in Physiotherapy
- Current registration with HCPC
- Evidence of continued professional development
Desirable criteria
- Post graduate qualification in relevant area
Experience
Essential criteria
- Full range of undergraduate placements
- Experience within a variety of settings
- Experience of using client-centred goals
Desirable criteria
- Experience of Band 5 Rotations, or assistant work
- Experience of working in Healthcare
Knowledge/Skills
Essential criteria
- Confident with core physiotherapy skills
- The ability to carry out physiotherapy assessment and intervention incorporating manual physiotherapy techniques, therapeutic handling and safe use of equipment, using the skills of highly developed dexterity, co-ordination and palpatory senses
- Awareness of current developments within the NHS
- Ability to deal sensitively with patients who have high level of anxiety and aggression caused by pain, dementia, mental health issues or limited mobility
Desirable criteria
- Ability to cover respiratory on call

- Ability to travel independantly between sites
