In the summer of 2020, the Trust launched its ambitious ‘Building for our Future’ (BFF) programme. This once in a lifetime programme aims to redevelop and expand our hospitals at Eastbourne, Hastings and Bexhill, transforming the environment in which we provide care for generations to come.

At Rye, Winchelsea and District Memorial Hospital we offer outpatients, rehabilitation and intermediate services. At Uckfield Community Hospital we provide day surgery and outpatient care.

In the community, we deliver services that focus on people with long term conditions living well outside hospital, through our integrated locality teams working with district and community nursing teams. Community members of staff also provide care to patients in their homes and from a number of clinics, health centres and GP surgeries.

 

Job overview

We are delighted to have an opportunity to recruit a Cancer Support Worker to join our established team of Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialists within Head & Neck

Working with speciality teams to improve the patient experience. You will work to ensure that patients are seen promptly and by the most appropriate person. You will work with the MDT to support the development of the new stratified patient support pathways. 

You may be required to work cross site as the service requires. You will receive support to develop into this new role alongside our existing support worker and CNS team.

Main duties of the job

You will work mainly at the Eastbourne site however may need to work cross site at Conquest as the service requires. You will receive support to develop into this new role alongside our CNS team. You will play a significant role in the co-ordination of Holistic Needs Assessments and supporting our Head & Neck Clinical Nurse Specialists in Clinical activity as well and undertaking administrative tasks. 

You will be supporting patients to aid in personalising their care. You will be helping to coordinate patient care and effective access in and out of the service.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • .GCSE English Language and Mathematics (Grades A-C) or equivalent.
  • Evidence of continued professional development
Desirable criteria
  • Training in foundation degree in health and social care equivalent
  • Foundation degree in health and social care
  • Care certificate

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Relevant health or social care experience or equivalent
  • Experience of multi-professional working
  • Experience in the use of data management and IT systems
  • Understanding of the health and social care environment
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in coordinating a patient workload
  • Experience of working with cancer patients
  • Awareness of Improving Outcomes: A Strategy for Cancer and other national cancer policies
