At Rye, Winchelsea and District Memorial Hospital we offer outpatients, rehabilitation and intermediate services. At Uckfield Community Hospital we provide day surgery and outpatient care.

In the community, we deliver services that focus on people with long term conditions living well outside hospital, through our integrated locality teams working with district and community nursing teams. Community members of staff also provide care to patients in their homes and from a number of clinics, health centres and GP surgeries.

 

Job overview

Are you a qualified registered Children's Nurse with broad and relevant post registration experience at Band 5 or above in ED paediatric nursing or general paediatrics, Then this is your opportunity to help shape the development of children's designated emergency care area within Emergency Department. 

You will be part of an amazing team of paediatric nurses working in the Emergency Department, providing care being confident in the role of patient's advocate in order to maintain safe and compassionate care of children and families within ED. 

The post is challenging but will provide you with varied experience and opportunities for professional development within a friendly and supportive team. You will be supported to work in all areas of the Emergency Department minors / triage / majors’ paediatrics and the resuscitation room. The paediatric nursing team work closely with the Emergency Nurse Practitioners who are an invaluable source of education, experience and skill in extended minor injuries and illness. There is also regular sim and in house training days which you will have the opportunity to attend. 

Training and opportunities to broaden your experience will be available as appropriate. As a new member of the team we will support you to get your mentorship qualification, Advanced Paediatric Life Support Course, and with strong links to Universities we encourage and support staff to study at Level 6 / 7 level accredited courses. 

Main duties of the job

Monitor standards of paediatric nursing care and take appropriate action to maintain and improve them.

To respond to patients and their relatives/carers concerns as they arise and take remedial action as required.

To provide children and carers/parents on-going referrals for support/treatments when necessary in the community.

To provide assessment, recognition, prioritisation and evaluation of children with minor injuries /serious illness /injury presenting for urgent care.

To manage paediatric minor illnesses and minor injuries within scope of competency using PGD where available and seek clinical support from U&EC consultants or paediatric consultants or senior paediatric doctor when required.

To effectively manage and develop the nursing team within the  Urgent and Emergency centre and provide professional and clinical leadership in the delivery of high quality, safe, cost effective care to children and families.

To develop the role of the Paediatric Nurse Practitioner/ Paediatric Emergency Nurse Practitioner, assisting in meeting the standard of all children being assessed, treated and discharged / admitted within 4 hours of arrival.

You will be part of an amazing team of paediatric nurses working in the Emergency Department, providing care being confident in the role of patient's advocate in order to maintain safe and compassionate care of children and families in the ED.
