The Conquest Hospital in Hastings and our Community Services were rated ‘Outstanding’ and Eastbourne DGH was rated ‘Good’ Our two acute hospitals have Emergency Departments and provide 24 hour a day care, offering a comprehensive range of surgical, medical, outpatient and maternity services, supported by a full range of diagnostic and therapy services. 


In the summer of 2020, the Trust launched its ambitious ‘Building for our Future’ (BFF) programme. This once in a lifetime programme aims to redevelop and expand our hospitals at Eastbourne, Hastings and Bexhill, transforming the environment in which we provide care for generations to come. 

We provide safe, compassionate and high quality hospital and community care to over half a million people living in East Sussex and those who visit our local area.

Our centre for trauma services and obstetrics is at Conquest Hospital, while our centre for urology and stroke services is at Eastbourne DGH. At Bexhill Hospital we offer a range of outpatient, day surgery, rehabilitation and intermediate care services. At Rye, Winchelsea and District Memorial Hospital we offer outpatients, rehabilitation and intermediate services. At Uckfield Community Hospital we provide day surgery and outpatient care.

In the community, we deliver services that focus on people with long term conditions living well outside hospital, through our integrated locality teams working with district and community nursing teams. Community members of staff also provide care to patients in their homes and from a number of clinics, health centres and GP surgeries.

As a Clinical Secretary in the Gastroenterology Department you will play a vital role in supporting clinicians to achieve exemplary patient care. If you enjoy variety in a fast-paced environment wish to be part of a team striving to make a difference and have the ability to work under pressure at times and you can answer “yes” to the above then we want to hear from you.  Due to the nature of the speciality this is a particularly fast paced role.

The successful candidate will need to deal with patients, clinicians & other staff members, ensuring high levels of customer service and attention to detail. You will have regular interaction with the secretarial management team & the departmental service manager. It is essential that you are able to demonstrate good interpersonal, verbal & written skills & have a "can do" attitude.  

This is a fixed term contract up to 12 months/secondment opportunity considered

Main duties of the job

You will have a good level of IT literacy as you will be using multiple software packages.  You will be empathetic, efficient, hardworking & resilient.

This role will keep you both challenged & busy as you work closely with colleagues to support the clinical team of Consultants, junior doctors & specialist nurses.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of good general education to GCSE Grade C or above, including Maths and English
  • IT training on office software packages
  • NVQ3 Business & Administration or equivalent
  • Proficient in using patient record systems
Desirable criteria
  • NVQ 4 in administration or equivalent
  • ECDL

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Good level of recent secretarial experience in a busy office environment
  • Maintaining records
Desirable criteria
  • NHS experience
  • Previous experience working in a medical secretarial capacity

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to communicate with, co-ordinate and liaise with a multidisciplinary team
