Job overview
We have a great opportunity for you to assist in our hospitals buy supporting our busy Estates team. We are looking for Maintenance Assistant. You will be assisting with the maintenance and repair of a wide range of mechanical and electrical plant, equipment and services and minor building fabric repairs.
To work as a part of the wider Estates team to achieve site-wide engineering compliance, maintaining all building systems and achieving the wider strategic aims as set out by the site Head of Estates.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will undertake Grounds keeping duties and assist in the repair, service and inspection of building, mechanical, electrical and their associated systems, in accordance with relevant legislative standards and operational procedures to ensure a safe environment for patients, public and staff.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Maintain cleanliness and safety of St Richards Hospital grounds including, but not limited to, emptying bins, removal of vegetation including weeding/maintenance of hospital grounds.
• Maintain cleanliness and safety of work areas and workshops. Carry out plant room cleaning and ensure all plant areas are maintained at all times.
• Complete regular utilities meter readings for water, gas, electricity.
• To record accurately and fully participate in the effective running of a Labour Management system. To keep accurate details of works completed including time, date, job content, location and materials used. Update logbooks, registers, and other statutory records.
• A set of tools appropriate to the duties of the post will be supplied and maintained by the post holder. Power tools and access equipment will be provided for which the post holder will be responsible for the maintenance and security.
• Attend training courses for engineering plant and equipment, statutory training sessions, seminars and courses for the purpose of self-development.
• The post holder must use the personal protection equipment provided and follow health and safety, COSHH and fire safety precautions and ensure that safe working practices are adhered to in compliance with HTM’s, HBN’s and the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.

- Previous experience in a similar role
- Consideration will be given to Candidates who can demonstrate relevant experience gained via previous employment history
- Experience in Gardening and Grounds Maintenance
Desirable criteria
- Have extensive knowledge of hospital operational estates issues, including an in depth understanding of maintenance procedures within a medical environment.
- Any mechanical, electrical or building qualifications
- NVQ 2 or equivalent knowledge and 2 years’ experience.
