Band 5 – Directorate Support Manager – General Surgery.

Full time (Monday to Friday) - Permanent.  

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Directorate Support Manager for General Surgery.

The role will provide an excellent development opportunity for an individual who is keen to progress into an operational role within the NHS secondary care environment.

The responsibilities of the position will cover supporting the Service Manager with the day to day running of the department across both St Richard and Worthing sites.  This a cross site role therefore presence at both sites will be required.

This role will involve directly liaising with clinical staff and the daily management of the secretarial and admin staff within the specialty. Supporting the Directorate management team with the delivery of RTT and Cancer targets by liaising closely with MDT coordinators and booking teams, ensuring theatre and clinic capacity is efficiently utilised keeping patient experience is at the heart of service delivery. 

This role would suit an all-round flexible team player who is able to work both autonomously and as part of a wider multi-disciplinary team.

 

Main duties of the job

The role is varied and involves close working relationships with the secretaries and administration support staff within the Directorate. 

In addition, the role will support all other aspect of administration to the Directorate including management of administrative staffing, clinic utilisation and RTT validation/performance reporting.  The successful candidate will be required to possess excellent interpersonal skills along with a varied knowledge of a number of hospitals IT systems. 

This role requires an excellent eye for detail, accuracy and you must be able to work to tight deadlines and at times under pressure. The role is based at St Richards but the successful applicant will be required to work across site at Worthing as well. Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The Directorate Support Manager will report directly to the Service Manager to provide efficient and organised administrative and operational support.

The role will involve supporting the Service Manager in a range of duties including administrative support of the waiting lists, clinics and theatre capacity, supporting administrative processes across the Directorate to be co-ordinated in order to deliver both governance and performance functions.

Develop and maintain an effective and efficient administration service for the designated departments.

Actively support the Service Manager/Operational Manager in the delivery of the Trust’s key performance targets.

Liaise with the multi-disciplinary teams within the department to facilitate improvement in quality of care using lessons learned from adverse incidents and patient complaints

Actively support the service in identifying capacity and demand issues.

Attend weekly waiting times meetings and represent the service in the absence of the Service/Operational managers.

Support the management of departmental leave for all staff groups including the management of clinic cancellations.
