Are you a Nursing Associate (or soon to qualify Nurse Associate) with a drive for acute and emergency care 

Brighton & Sussex University Hospital NHS Trust have opportunities for Nursing Associates to join our Emergency Department team at the Royal Sussex County HospitalWe are a Major Trauma Centre, receiving patients from throughout Surrey, Sussex and surrounding areas. 

The post will suit a dynamic and energetic individual able to work as part of a team. 

The post holder will be offered education, mandatory training and staff development within a positive learning environment.

A nursing associate in the emergency department will be expected to:

  • Deliver high quality, compassionate care under the direction of a Registered Nurse (or other registered care professional dependent on setting) with a focus on promoting health and independence 

  • Have proficient attitudes and behaviours compatible with NHS Values 

  • Work as part of a designated clinical and care team delivering care that focuses on the direct needs of the individual 

  • Carry out specific delegated clinical and care tasks and responsibilities to a high standard and competency, under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse or other registered care professionals dependent on setting 

 

Main duties of the job

We welcome applications from those who currently hold a UK NMC registration. If you currently hold an overseas nursing qualification and require sponsorship we are not currently direct hiring Internationally Qualified Nurses.Duties will include:  

  • Document nursing care in a comprehensive, timely, logical, accurate, clear and concise manner using appropriate terminologies (counter-signed by a registered practitioner, as appropriate) 

  • Assist in the safe admission, transfer and discharge of patients in accordance with Trust policies 

  • May supervise clinical support workers (e.g. Health Care Assistants, Trainee Assistant Practitioners, Trainee Nursing Associates and 1st, 2nd year student nurses) in own area; may assist in assessment and learning/development of clinical support workers 

  • Have proficient attitudes and behaviours compatible with NHS Values 

  • Take responsibility for developing own clinical competence, leadership and reflective practice skills within the workplace 

  • Deliver high quality, compassionate care under the direction of a Registered Nurse (or other registered care professional dependent on setting) with a focus on promoting health and independence 

     

Specific duties and responsibilities are subject to specific training, adherence to protocols/policies and formal assessment of competency.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

 

Ensure all patient related information is treated sensitively and adhere to the principals of confidentiality at all times  

Report any accidents or incidents and raise any concerns as per organisational policy 

Ensure clear, concise, accurate and legible records and all communication is maintained in relation to care delivered adhering to local and national guidance 

 
 
 
 
 

Assist with the implementation and monitoring of clinical standards and outcomes  

Develop a working knowledge of other providers’ resources and referral systems to ensure individual’s needs are met, within parameters of practice  

Engage in reflective practice including management of self and reflection on own reactions, asking questions and reflecting on answers given 

Demonstrate good understanding of principles of consent and ensure valid consent is obtained prior to undertaking nursing and care procedures
