Main duties of the job

  • To provide an effective, safe, evidence based patient care in accordance with ‘The Code’ to women and pregnant people the antenatal clinics and core midwifery care setting.
  • The post holder will be responsible for the delivery of a consistently high standard of care to meet patient needs and Unit objectives.
  • The post holder must demonstrate clinical expertise in the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of care using a holistic approach.
  • The post holder must possess fundamental management and facilitation skills in order to co-ordinate and supervise the activity of Unit staff, promote multi-disciplinary working and foster a supportive, learning environment.
  • In the absence of the Sister/Charge Nurse the post holder will assume responsibility for the effective operation of the Unit.
  • As a Registered Nurse the post holder is expected to consistently act in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

This job will be mainly on the Postnatal ward at RSCH. The main responsibility will to provide an effective, safe, evidence based patient care in accordance with  ‘The Code’ to women and pregnant people the antenatal clinics and core midwifery care setting.  Working Alongside midwifery colleagues supporting women/people following their birth. There may be times where working on labour ward is required if there is a women/person with specific nursing requirements, as well as occasional cover for annual leave/ sickness for the vaccination clinics in the ANC/DAU. The shifts consist of long days, night and weekends and bank may also be available to cover these shifts.

  • 997/998 Mentorship Module or Equivalent
  • ECDL Modules 1,2,7 or equivalent
