Our extensive health services are provided by over 7,000 dedicated members of staff working from two acute hospitals in Hastings and Eastbourne, three community hospitals in Bexhill, Rye and Uckfield, over 100 community sites across East Sussex, and in people’s own homes. 


In 2020 the Care Quality Commission (CQC) rated us as ‘Good’ overall, and ‘Outstanding’ for being Caring and Effective. The Conquest Hospital in Hastings and our Community Services were rated ‘Outstanding’ and Eastbourne DGH was rated ‘Good’ Our two acute hospitals have Emergency Departments and provide 24 hour a day care, offering a comprehensive range of surgical, medical, outpatient and maternity services, supported by a full range of diagnostic and therapy services. 


In the summer of 2020, the Trust launched its ambitious ‘Building for our Future’ (BFF) programme. This once in a lifetime programme aims to redevelop and expand our hospitals at Eastbourne, Hastings and Bexhill, transforming the environment in which we provide care for generations to come.

Our centre for trauma services and obstetrics is at Conquest Hospital, while our centre for urology and stroke services is at Eastbourne DGH. At Bexhill Hospital we offer a range of outpatient, day surgery, rehabilitation and intermediate care services. At Rye, Winchelsea and District Memorial Hospital we offer outpatients, rehabilitation and intermediate services. At Uckfield Community Hospital we provide day surgery and outpatient care.

In the community, we deliver services that focus on people with long term conditions living well outside hospital, through our integrated locality teams working with district and community nursing teams. Community members of staff also provide care to patients in their homes and from a number of clinics, health centres and GP surgeries.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Rehabilitation Support Worker within Dietetics and Speech and Language Therapy to support the delivery of our rehabilitation strategy for Intermediate Care Services at East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust. This role will support our therapy team to provide high quality rehabilitation to patients accessing our service at Bexhill Irvine Unit.

The ESHT Rehabilitation strategy is focused on improving the quality and performance of our acute and community services to deliver high quality rehabilitation across East Sussex. This is a dynamic and changing environment, and the strategy is working to support our staff, teams and the organisation as a whole to make meaningful changes that bring about improvements in rehabilitation for the benefit of our population. The role of the band 3 Rehabilitation Support Worker is key in delivering our strategy.

To assist the dietician and speech and language therapists in the rehabilitation of patients as required . To follow a rehabilitation program delegated by a qualified Therapist working without direct supervision at times. To feedback to qualified Therapists around any concerns identified impacting patient rehabilitation.

Qualifications

  • GCSE grade 4 or GCE C and above
  • Level 2 functional skills or health care support worker apprenticeship / NVQ level 2 in relevant subject
  • Level 3 apprenticeship for example senior health care support worker or similar and / or NVQ level 3 in relevant subject or equivalent level of knowledge and experience

Experience

  • Experience in health or social care settings such as employment, work experience volunteering or placements

  • To have the physical ability to carry out physiotherapy assessment and intervention incorporating manual physiotherapy techniques, therapeutic handling and sage use of equipment, using the skills of highly developed dexterity, co-ordination and palpatory senses.
  • May have to impart unwelcome news regarding rehabilitation / discharge prospects
  • Prolonged periods of concentration on patient treatment, with occasional interruptions and telephone calls regarding patients
  • To be responsible for organising and planning own caseload to meet service and patient priorities.
  • To carry out treatments of musculo-skeletal, elderly, and orthopaedic conditions etc, with moderate physical effort on a daily basis.
  • To deal sensitively with patients who have high levels of anxiety and aggression caused by pain, dementia, mental health issues or limited mobility
