At Rye, Winchelsea and District Memorial Hospital we offer outpatients, rehabilitation and intermediate services. At Uckfield Community Hospital we provide day surgery and outpatient care.

In the community, we deliver services that focus on people with long term conditions living well outside hospital, through our integrated locality teams working with district and community nursing teams. Community members of staff also provide care to patients in their homes and from a number of clinics, health centres and GP surgeries.

 

Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Occupational Therapy Assistant to join our Intermediate Care Stroke team at Bexhill Irvine Unit. Bexhill Irvine Unit is a 54 bedded rehabilitation unit, where the teams strive to deliver person centred therapy interventions. The occupational therapy assistant is essential is supporting the delivery of interventions alongside the multidisciplinary team. This is a part time opportunity for a dynamic and motivated individual to join the team.

Main duties of the job

This post is ideal for candidates who are keen to learn, able to work independently and have a health care background. You will  work closely with your qualified OT colleagues to support patients. You will have the opportunity to take part in clinical supervision to enhance your personal and professional development.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Educated to GCSE with English and Maths
  • NVQ3 in direct care or a therapy discipline or proven equivalent knowledge and experience.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience in patient / client care
  • Ability to communicate and work with patients.
Desirable criteria
  • NHS or Social Services Experience.
  • Experience within Therapy Setting.

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work under own initiative where required
  • Good organisational skills
  • Flexible with effective time management skills
  • Basic IT and keyboard skills
  • Physically able to assist patients / hoisting equipment for care and movement
Desirable criteria
  • Ability to motivate
  • Evidence of ability to learn from past success / failure

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Understanding of Occupational Therapy
  • Interest in rehabilitation
  • Understanding of the principles of equal opportunities in relation to staff and patients
