Job overview

Tees Esk and Wear Valley NHS Foundation Trust (TEWV) has put co-creation at the heart of its Our Journey to Change Strategy, with a clear plan for embedding co-creation and lived experience leadership right across the organisation. 

This exciting opportunity to be a key part of the team ( (part time - 30 hours) delivering this important element of the Trusts overall strategy (Our Journey to Change).  The Involvement and Engagement Facilitator will work as part of a team of facilitators. Having a key role in promoting and support the voice of lived experience across the organisation. As well as supporting staff with the development of resources and support to put co-creation into action.

The post holder would be suitable for someone with a lived experience of using secondary mental health services or supporting somebody who have accessed these services. And has applied these lived experiences to supporting the development / change of the way services operate. 

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work as a key member of the Involvement and Engagement Team, developing relationships, resources and support to service users, carers and professionals across the trust, as part of our Co-Creation Journey to Change and the development of our Co-Creation Framework.

The post holder will work closely with the Involvement and Engagement Team Manager and Head of Co-Creation to develop mechanisms to embedded co-creation across the Trust, such as, but not limited to: training / development of staff, service user and carer involvement and networks and supervision spaces for co-creation. 

The post holder will work creatively to develop new and innovative ways of supporting those with lived experience be involved in the way the Trust develops and delivers its services. 

The post holder will be able to relate personally to those with lived experience who are involved with the Trust through the Involvement and Engagement Team, and support and guide them in the best way of using their lived experience and skills to get the most out of their involvement with TEWV.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will :- 

Promote and develop cocreation with service users and carers in service planning, service improvement, transformation and governance and delivery throughout Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust (the Trust)

Be involved in the development of services in the Trust, promoting innovative and creative ways of working with service users and carers. Advocate for cocreation and partnership working.

Assist in the establishment and maintenance of effective working relationships between staff working within the Trust and service users and carers.

Support clinical staff to gain a deeper and more meaningful insight into the needs of service users and carers and to promote cocreation throughout the Trust.

Act as a resource for service users, carers and staff in maintenance, commissioning, planning, improving and development of future services.

Provide emotional support and practical training for service users and carers to support them to thrive as involvement members and get involved in various cocreation activities.

Build relationships with the central involvement team and the locality participation leads and external VCS organisations to support cocreation across the system.

Promote at all times a positive image of people with mental health conditions and learning disabilities. Challenge discrimination towards this group of people.

Promote at all times a positive image of the Corporate Affairs and Involvement department and the wider Trust.

Assist service users and carers through their involvement activities when there is a need to voice potential challenge the Trust.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Educated to degree level in relevant subject or equivalent experience
  • Evidence of Leadership and Project Management
  • Facilitation, Training and Teaching Skills
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety
  • Management Qualification
  • Knowledge of Equality & Diversity

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Extensive experience of working in a mental health or learning disabilities field
  • Experience of cocreation and supporting change involving service users and carer
  • Working with service users and carers
  • Experience of working with and responding to emotional distress
  • Project Management/Evaluation
  • Experience of working within complex organisations
Desirable criteria
  • Lived experience of mental illness and or accessing services
  • Experience of range of mental health services

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of coproduction, cocreation and involvement and engagement
  • Problem Solving Approaches
  • Aware of current issues in mental health e.g recovery model, peer work, trauma informed care
  • Knowledge of how to support and engage people from minority backgrounds.
Desirable criteria
  • Ability to collate and disseminate complex information
  • Interview skills
  • Presentation skills
  • Knowledge of the legislation and guidance governing Patient and Public Involvement
