We are on a continuous journey of improvement and transformation , however our main priority is, and always will be, providing safe and high quality care to our patients every day; the kind of care we would want for ourselves and our loved ones. If you share our passion then apply for this opportunity and help us make our patients’ experience the best it can possibly be.

Job overview

This post is primarily designed for higher trainees who have ideally passed their FRCS (T & O) examination or finished at least 4 years of Registrar training  and wish to gain specialist surgical experience in Foot and ankle surgery  prior to applying for a Consultant post.  Applicants must be competent in straightforward foot and ankle procedures.   It is a nationally recognised position in collaboration with the British Orthopaedic Association and its Training and Education Strategy.  The unit is currently negotiating additional independent fellow theatre lists and clinics.

This will also include planned fellow operating lists in addition to provision for treating patients who have been referred by the general trauma team but requires the expertise of the foot and ankle team.

The Trust has strong links with Teesside University and has a track record of supporting trainees through various clinical courses provided by the university.

The successful candidate will have commitments at both hospital sites (University Hospital of North Tees and University Hospital of Hartlepool). It is a fixed term contract for 12 months.

It is essential that the applicant has a good understanding of clinical risk management and experience of lower limb surgery. In addition to the challenges of the role, we expect commitment to clinical research - especially metal on metal, teaching and audit.
