With a budget of around £365m, three hospitals and 5,500 staff, North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust provides hospital-based services to the population of Hartlepool, Stockton on Tees and parts of East Durham and Sedgefield as well as community, therapeutic and screening to a wider population across Durham and Teesside.

Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Ward Clerk to join a forward thinking team based within Care Group 2. The service provides a wide range of services encompassing acute medicine, elderly medicine, stroke, haematology, cardiology, gastroenterology , diabetes and endocrinology, and respiratory. Our aim to provide high quality care to our patients with excellent patient experience outcomes.

Attention to detail, organisational skills with precise and clear communication are vital parts of this important role alongside good IT skills.

The role will support the directorate on a rota basis. Working days Mon-Fri 8-4

Full support and internal training will be offered to the successful candidate.

Main duties of the job

Administrative support to ward staff, liaising with other departments within the Trust and outside the organisation.

This role is an integral part in the achievement of the Trust's strategic objectives.

 The post holder will be required to assist in the provision of a professional, high quality effective and efficient administrative and clerical support service to a multi-disciplinary team that meets the needs of the service and the requirements of all related policies, procedures and guidelines, meeting the high demands of the post, and working to tight deadlines whilst remaining calm, flexible and organised.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

 Undertake daily administrative and clerical duties specific to ward area (to be supplied by wards) to support the provision of patient care on the ward, by taking direction from ward managers/matron and nursing staff as appropriate to ensure patient safety and the security and confidentiality of all patient related information.    

 Dealing with queries from service users including General Practitioners, patients and their representatives, in a professional and courteous manner that is consistent with legislation, policies and procedures including data protection and confidentiality, sourcing any relating information that might help deal with the query, taking accurate written messages and passing more complex queries on to relevant staff.    

Ensure that all work tasks are carried out to a high standard of quality which meets all of the  organisations’ requirements for patient safety, information governance, data protection and confidentiality.   

Liaise with the multi-disciplinary team on the ward and with staff from other wards/departments and external service users including GP’s, patients and their representatives in a professional and courteous manner that is consistent with legislation, policies and procedures including data protection and confidentiality. 
  

All other admin duties as required, supporting the needs of the service and working cross site if required.
