Job overview

An exciting new opportunity has arisen for a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to work within the our Selby CAMHS Team.  The post holder will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.  The service provides assessment and intervention for children and young people experience moderate to severe mental health difficulties.  It also provides specialist neurodevelopmental diagnostic assessments and post-diagnostic ADHD interventions.

Main duties of the job

You will be expected to carry out clinical work as part of the multi-disciplinary team, providing specialist assessment to children and young people between 0-18 years within the neurodevelopmental diagnostic pathways.  

You will provide expert clinical knowledge to the wider multi-disciplinary team and work as part of the wider team's leadership set.

As a band 7 you will provide supervision to band 6 speech and language therapists in adjacent CAMHS teams within the care group.

The post holder will have access to regular clinical and management supervision and will be expected to attend regular SLT staff meetings, peer supervisions and evidence-based practice events.

The SLT service is committed to continued personal and professional development via annual appraisals and the development of individual job plans.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder should be motivated by the opportunity to work with the multidisciplinary team to develop new ways of working and enhance service provision.  

The post holder will attend multi-professional panels to discuss referrals into the pathway and identify needs of the young person/family.  They will provide SLT assessments in relation to Neurodevelopmental Disorders as well as take part in other standardised assessments for Autism and/or ADHD.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • BSc in Speech and Language Therapy
  • Masters in a relevant subject (or willingness to undertake within agreed timescale)
  • Registration with HCPC
  • Recognised qualifications in specialist areas relevant to the role e.g. Dysphagia, Intensive Interaction, Talking Mats, Autism etc (or willingness to achieve within agreed timescale)
  • Clinical Supervisory Skills course
  • Trust training in Appraisal and Recruitment (or willingness to undertake within an agreed timescale)
  • Trust QIS (Quality Improvement System) for Leaders (or willingness to undertake within agreed timescale)
  • Numeracy, Literacy and ITQ level 2 (or equivalent)
Desirable criteria
  • Membership of Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists.

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Communicate complex and sensitive information in a manner appropriate to the individual and situation.
  • Work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Motivate and work positively and constructively with other members of the team.
  • Provide effective teaching, training and clinical supervision.

  • Knowledge of communication presentations associated with different neurodevelopmental profiles
