Job overview
The Forensic Service offers you the exciting opportunity to work within the Secure Inpatient Service.
We are looking for someone motivated, enthusiastic and creative to join our team of Activity Workers to facilitate activity within Roseberry Park Hospital.
The role will involve working with our excellent facilities across the inpatient site and within a ward environment. You will have strong working links with the Recovery Academy as well as a range of Allied Health Professionals.
The Forensic Service will provide you with access to relevant training opportunities in your workplace to support you in developing your knowledge, experience and skills.
You will have the opportunity to make a significant positive impact on the delivery of care and improving patient wellbeing whilst being supported by a dedicated Multi-Disciplinary Team.
You will have the opportunity to provide a range of therapeutic activities to meet the educational, social and recreational needs of service users to enhance recovery.
Main duties of the job
To develop and deliver a range of activities for all inpatients within the service, supporting with recovery focused rehabilitation. These could include Recovery Colleges, Vocational skills and qualifications and social activities.
Supporting and enhancing peoples hobbies and skills, you could be supporting or leading in areas of craft, gardening, sports, social activities based with in the hospital. We also support people to gain skills and experience working in our internally managed cafe and shop.

The Secure Inpatient Service provides a specialist service for adults with a mental health disorder, learning disability or autism who exhibit behaviours of concern to others and to themselves. The service provides individualised, comprehensive packages of care within Medium and Low Secure inpatient settings and has links to High Secure services and prisons.

We take pride in ensuring care and security is delivered in a psychologically informed and compassionate way, working collaboratively with our service users and carers to create and sustain a positive and healthy psychosocial environment.
As a Service we pride ourselves in supporting and promoting staff health and wellbeing and have developed and published specific guidance for all staff to support this aim as a priority.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Relevant NVQ Level 3 in Care or
- Appropriate AVCE in Health & Social Care or
- Willingness to undertake within agreed timescale
- and Numeracy, Literacy and ITQ level 2 (or equivalent)
Desirable criteria
- Qualification in education or lifelong learning or
- Qualification in LLDD (Learner with Learning Difficulties/Disabilities)
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of working in Experience or paid or voluntary work with adults with learning disability and /or Autism spectrum conditions and/or mental health conditions clinical setting
- Experience of organising and running activities of a therapeutic nature
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working in secure setting
- Experience of Recovery College courses and recovery focused events
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Awareness of the needs and difficulties of service users with mental health conditions and/or learning disabilities.
- Awareness of the needs of individuals from diverse social, ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
- Understanding of Recovery and the CHIME principles
- Understanding of education terminology (within agreed timescale)
- Awareness of health & safety issues (within agreed timescale)
Skills
Essential criteria
- Ability to communicate information (verbal and written) effectively in a manner appropriate to the individual and situation
- Time management and ability to prioritise effectively
