Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a band 7 registered mental health nurse to join community mental health team for older people in the Bishop Auckland & Dales (based at Auckland Park Hospital.)

We are looking to employ a highly motivated mental health nurse with drive and enthusiasm in this field of nursing. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a patient centred approach to care, have excellent assessment and risk management skills. The post holder will be responsible for the management of a caseload of patients and work effectively within a multidisciplinary team. They will also be required to provide clinical leadership and supervision to junior members of the community team. There will also be an expectation that the successful candidate will support students and learners within this clinical setting.

The post-holder will be required to travel across Bishop Auckland and the Dales and therefore applicants must be capable of independent travel.

This post is only open to candidates who have their NMC registration.

Ideally you will hold a non medical prescribing qualification or currently  be working to  achieve this qualification.  

 

Main duties of the job

  • Leading on professional development and ensuring the delivery of robust evidence based practice.
  • To ensure high professional standards of nursing practice in accordance with the NMC code of Conduct
  • To provide nurse led diagnosis and treatment planning.
  • To undertake ongoing audit of care and service delivery, underpinned by research and evidence-based practice.
  • To support the  team manager and other senior clinical staff in establishing and maintaining high standards and continual improvement within the established governance framework.
  • To participate in clinical/professional and management supervision
  • To contribute to multi-disciplinary team working
  • To use system one electronic patient record system
  • To abide by all Trust policies and procedures
  • To be able to respond flexibly and creatively to challenges

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Current Professional Registration with Nursing and Midwifery Council - RMN / RNLD/ RGN (RNSC - CAMHS Only)
  • Recognised Practice Assessor/Practice Supervisor or currently in progress of achieving.
  • Trained in Clinical Supervision and providing Clinical Supervision or in the process of achieving
  • Postgraduate diploma in a subject relevant to the area Or be willing to work towards and achieve within 2 years and
  • Within the first year of being in post hold a recognised qualification in a governed therapy/advanced clinical qualification e.g Intermediate Systemic Family Therapy/Post Grad diploma in CBT/British Isles Dialectical Behaviour Therapy /NMP (Independent Prescriber)
  • And have Equivalent clinical experience to that of a Post Grad Diploma/master’s level such as working as a band 6 (or above) in relevant clinical area with significant experience (see below under experience), together with evidence of relevant CPD

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Extensive knowledge of current issues relating to health needs of patients in the field of practice, regionally and nationally
  • Understanding and working knowledge of the legal framework and statutory obligations under the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act
  • Detailed understanding of Safeguarding and its application in practice
  • Clinical Risk Assessment and Management and its application in practice.
  • Clinical Governance and its application in practice.
  • Working knowledge of clinical medicines management
  • Understanding of psychological models of care and treatment (depending on specialist area)
Desirable criteria
  • Understanding and knowledge of relational models of working

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant experience working with patients with complex needs in the specialist field
  • Significant experience working with patients who display risk behaviours
  • Clinical risk assessment and management and its application in practice
  • Working collaboratively with service users their families and carers
  • Working in a multi-disciplinary team
  • Quality improvement activities
