Are you a qualified Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (School Nursing) with experience within a comparable role looking for a change?

We highly value the contribution that the Specialist Practitioner (School Nursing) makes to improving outcomes for children, young people and their families, using evidence-based, early intervention strategies

As a Specialist Practitioner, you will lead and participate in the School Nursing core programme, as underpinned by the Healthy Child Programme and will work in partnership with children, young people and families, the Local Authority, Early Intervention Services, Children’s Services, Schools and other Health Care providers. You will be required to work closely with pan Dorset 0-19  CYP Public Health Teams , to provide services in response to identified needs, including supporting the delivery of the ChatHealth texting service, Safeguarding and School Nursing Requests for Support.

We are looking for enthusiastic Specialist Practitioners (School Nursing) to join and complement our forward-thinking Dorset 0-19  CYP Public Health Teams. These roles are in - the Purbeck 0-19  CYP Public Health Team based at Wareham Hospital and the West Dorset 0-19  CYP Public Health Team based at Bridport Medical Centre.  These posts are permanent, part time up to 30 hours per week, year round.

Main duties of the job

To assess, plan, implement and evaluate specialist interventions and packages of care to people on an allocated caseload; promoting independence and autonomy; working within a multi-disciplinary team.
Advance own clinical knowledge, skill and competence based on current evidence through advanced educational programmes.

To demonstrate clinical effectiveness by use of evidence informed practice and outcome measures.
Where appropriate to qualification, Independent Non-Medical / Supplementary prescriber, able to take a history, assess, examine, diagnose, and prescribe and develop a management plan including medication and monitor response to medication.

To communicate effectively in verbal and written form in the exchange of highly complex, sensitive, or contentious information in difficult situations using de-escalation, mediation, resolution and professional Duty of Candour.

To manage the members of the 0-19 team effectively. This will include providing the line management for other team members, for example; management supervision, annual appraisals, sickness monitoring and management and conduct and capability monitoring and management.

Employment in this post requires an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, which the Trust will cover the cost of.  Applicants who subscribe to the DBS update service are able to present a valid DBS certificate instead of requiring a new check.
