Job overview
We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist to join our ENT / Voice team at University Hospitals Dorset. You will be passionate about providing holistic, evidence-based, patient-centred care and actively promoting service development.
We have strong links with the ENT Consultant teams. The Speech and Language Therapy Voice Service includes regular participation in Joint ENT/SLT Voice Clinics, Speech and Language Therapy-led Voice Endoscopy clinics as well as running patient information groups. Training will be provided as needed.
Main duties of the job
This role will involve working mainly with outpatients with a range of ENT / Voice disorders. The successful applicant will have specialist clinical knowledge and skills in the management of ENT voice and related disorders and will work closely with senior members of the team to provide excellent patient care. We are an extremely supportive and enthusiastic team and there are great opportunities for CPD and clinical supervision.

Base Location: Poole Hospital - The post holder may also be expected to work at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital, as part of University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust.

Experience
Essential criteria
- Independent assessment, management, therapeutic intervention and discharge of patients with Voice and ENT related communication disorders.
- Providing carer support in healthcare settings
- Working with an adult caseload, assessing and treating patients with a variety of aetiologies
- Dealing appropriately with difficult situations
- Teaching and educating patients, relatives, carers & staff
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working as an SLT in an acute hospital setting
- Supervision of students and junior staff
- Experience of running groups
Technical Skills
Essential criteria
- Skills to assess, manage & treat conditions and patients with complex multi pathologies at specialist level
- Skills in assessment and support of alternative and augmentative communication aids
- Skills to produce clear written documentation of intervention & reports
- Skills to independently prioritise clinical and nonclinical workload
Desirable criteria
- Skills to teach & supervise staff & assistants
- Evidence of participation in the audit process
- Evidence of participation in Quality Improvement projects
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Ability to critique evidence base and apply to clinical practice
- Understanding of Clinical Governance and its relevance to clinical situations
- Understanding of National Service Frameworks, NICE guidance and National strategy documents
- Knowledge of pathways for patients with Voice and ENT related communication disorders.
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of the role of specialist clinics in the diagnosis and treatment of Voice and ENT related disorders.

Qualifications

- Degree in Speech and Language Therapy or equivalent
- HCPC registration
- Registered Member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
- Evidence of a range of CPD activities relevant to role including membership of CEN groups.
Desirable criteria
- Attendance at post-qualification courses in Voice / ENT
