Job overview
University Hospitals Dorset are looking to recruit a General Maintenance Assistant to work as part of their Estates team at Poole Hospital!
The successful applicant will need to demonstrate a keen understanding of all modern general maintenance activities, both reactive and planned; they will require a willingness to learn, be a dedicated team player and have a proven track record.
The successful candidate will need to be able to work unsupervised and at times have a flexible approach working hours. Knowledge of at least one of the following subjects would be a major advantage although training will be given:
- Control of Legionella
- Inspection and Testing of Fire Doors
- Testing of emergency lighting

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Must be in procession of a driving licence (manual)
Desirable criteria
- GCSE grade C or above or equivalent in English, maths
- Computer literacy
- NVQ in an engineering or construction based subject
Experience
Essential criteria
- Able to communicate clearly and accurately both in verbal and written form.
- Be computer literate and able record data
- Able to work unsupervised in a variety situations which will require interaction with staff from other departments and patients /patients family.
Desirable criteria
- Previous NHS experience in an acute hospital environment or similar.
- Background in building services or construction.
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Health & Safety Training
- Awareness of the control of legionella in healthcare premises
Desirable criteria
- Training or experience in one or more of the following:- Construction, Mechanical or Electrical services
