Are you a psychologist looking for a change? Come join our dedicated Inpatient Psychology Service!

As an Inpatient Psychologist you will be responsible for a psychological service to those clients with an identified need across the acute In Patient services in the east of Dorset. This will include provision of highly specialist psychological assessments and interventions for very complex patients. You will increase workforce capacity and skill of the team to promote permanence and mental health providing timely, comprehensive written and verbal reports to professionals and service users, and communicate sensitively regarding all aspects of the work (e.g., assessment, formulation, intervention plans).

This is a part time post of 22.5 hours per week based at St Ann’s Hospital.

Main duties of the job

You will provide specialist, evidence-based psychological interventions to adults in inpatient settings, using a thorough understanding of trauma, various therapeutic approaches (such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, and psychodynamic therapy), and the latest research in clinical psychology.

You will effectively use psychological tests and measurements, as well as other appropriate methods of data collection (e.g., observation), to inform treatment. Regularly review and monitor treatment outcomes in line with established goals.

You will conduct risk assessments and develop risk management plans in line with clinical risk policies.

Maintain high standards of Clinical Psychology practice through continued professional development and supervision, in consultation with the post holder’s professional and service managers.

Knowledge, skills and training

Essential criteria
  • HCPC registration as a Practitioner Psychologist & eligibility for Chartered Status with the British Psychological Society.

Job specific experience

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrable post qualification experience at least 2 years as a Clinical Psychologist
  • Previous experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of children and/or people with a wide range of mental health problems, of varying severity and complexity.
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups across the life span - in professional management in relation to the children in care and post-care client group and their physical and mental health.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the BPS & HCPC.

Managerial/supervisory experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of teaching, training and/or professional and clinical supervision with a multi-agency setting

Information Technology

Essential criteria
  • Basic IT skills, normally obtained through practice or practical training (e.g. for RiO/Mosaic).

Personal qualities/attributes

Essential criteria
  • Ability to sustain professional composure in complex situations including situations of violence and aggression within a range of environments.
