Job overview

As the post holder you will facilitate data analytics for the Integrated Urgent Care Services in Dorset, by building reports, completing statutory returns and dealing with ad-hoc queries. You will provide service-based analysis and reporting, with information that is meaningful and clear and build relationships across the service.

You will become a subject matter expert in IUCS data and be able to support staff in understanding them. Working with other Business and Performance colleagues, you will use data to gain new insights for the service, learn from them, and help to guide others in areas where they can improve the accuracy and quality of the data.

Main duties of the job

To be a proactive member of the IUCS Data and Performance Team, by developing the effective use and interpretation of workforce information to support Dorset Healthcare in meeting its workforce requirements and forecasting for the Integrated Urgent Care Service, as well as national, and locally-driven returns and reporting.

Responsible for the development and delivery of high quality, consistent and timely data analysis and reporting services for the assigned operational directorate / corporate area

Interprets, communicates and presents analysis to service managers, professional teams and colleagues

Provide informatics expertise to the Trust in bespoke analysis, and manage the establishment of new information requirements to support strategic goals and service improvement

Knowledge, skills and training

Essential criteria
  • Educated to degree level in a health information or mathematical/statistical subject or equivalent experience of information handling / analysis in a work environment
  • Relevant experience of working with computer systems
  • Experience of working with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft SQL Tools and Power-BI.
  • Relevant experience working in a data and information systems environment
  • Experience of working in an Information management/Analyst role or similar
  • Good Standard of Education including Maths and English
  • Qualification or equivalent experience in information management/analysis
  • Evidence of continuous professional development
  • Understanding of data structures and modelling
  • Understanding of key national and local policy drivers / targets applicable to healthcare providers
  • Knowledge and understanding of clinical coding (e.g. READ, ICD10, or SNOMED), clinical terminology
  • Experience of producing of provider data, reporting, outcome measurements etc.
  • High level analytical and evaluative skills
  • Able to produce own reports in a logical and structured way to a high standard of presentation. Also translate reports and statistical analyses into information that is meaningful.
  • Confidence, enthusiasm and commitment to finding new ways of working
  • Knowledge and understanding of Clinical Systems

  • Postgraduate professional Health or information management qualification

Job specific experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience in identifying reporting requirements and developing reports to customers specifications
  • Has proven experience of information analysis using database interrogation tools: SQL, Power BI or equivalent
  • Has implemented new tools and systems for information reporting or analysis, supporting modern dashboard tools
  • Experience in training wide audiences and explaining technical reports to non-specialists
  • Trained in computerised systems and advanced keyboard skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines and ability to manage own work and prioritise workload
  • Ability to understand how own role and duties relate to broader strategic issues
  • Experience of using complex forecasting methods to determine future activity and resourcing levels
  • Ability to present and explain the result of complex information analysis in a clear and understandable way
Desirable criteria
  • NHS experience or other health or public sector

Managerial/supervisory experience

Essential criteria
  • Ability to set a good example and become a lead expert in assigned subject areas
  • Experience in managing projects / leading work development tasks
  • Experience of liaising / negotiating with external and internal suppliers
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in managing / supervising members of staff
  • Knowledge and experience of project management techniques e.g. PRINCE2

Managerial/supervisory experience

  • Expert in Microsoft Excel, intermediate level for WORD and PowerPoint
