Static Orthopaedic Physiotherapist- Band 6

6 Month secondment- Full time or Part time

The opportunity has arisen to offer a Band 6 Static Orthopaedic Physiotherapist position within the Inpatient department at Dorset County Hospital. 

The successful applicant will gain experience of treating a wide variety of clinical conditions and will also develop their leadership skills by appraisal and supervision of junior staff and students. We are committed to your continued professional development and provide a structured in service training programme alongside a directed training package. Your development will be overseen by experienced Band 7 Therapists.

Due to our strong commitment to staff development and teaching, we may also be able to offer the right candidate a one year band 5 accelerating to band 6 development programme.

Once deemed competent the post holder will be required to work at weekends on a roster basis as part of 7 day working or as part of a weekend rota.

Main duties of the job

Main duties will include the following:

  • You will undertake all aspects of clinical duties and carry a significant caseload of patients as an autonomous practitioner, including those with complex presentations
  • Supervision to be held in the form of regular training and clinical reasoning sessions, peer review and case conferences
  • You will be responsible for supervising designated members of staff within the specialist team.
  • In conjunction with the Team Lead, you will participate in a rolling programme of education, clinical evaluation, audit and research across the speciality.
  • You will be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of work, and the work of staff under your supervision. This will include management of clinical risk, clinical governance, knowledge of indications and precautions of chosen techniques in line with National and Trust clinical guidelines and protocols where they exist.
  • You will be responsible for maintaining own competency to practice through CPD activities and maintain a portfolio which reflects personal development. Ensure that your practice meets the required professional standards of physiotherapy practice
  • You will facilitate implementation and evaluation of physiotherapy clinical outcomes within a designated pathway and monitor adherence with professional and national standards.
  • You may be required to work at any of the sites within the Trust.

Qualification

Essential criteria
  • Degree or equivalent diploma in Physiotherapy
  • Registered with the HCPC
  • Undertaken a range of relevant postgraduate courses
  • Undertaken clinical educators course
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of relevant managerial/leadership training
  • Member of SIG
  • member of CSP

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Wide range of experience at band 5 in different specialities
  • Experience of particpating in audit and EBP
  • Evidence of actively particpating in in service training and MDT groups
  • Evidence and ability to work collaboratively in MDT
Desirable criteria
  • Previsous Band 6 experience
  • Research experience
  • Experiecne in managing limited resources and high workloads
  • Experience of supervision

Skills and abilities

Essential criteria
  • Ability to discuss clinical reasoning in management of complex cases
  • Ability to identify and act upon adverse clinical signs
  • Excellent time management skills with ability to organise, prioritse and delgate
  • Ability to work effectively in a team
  • Ability to communicate complex information to patients, carers and MDT
  • Ability to do self directed learning
  • Able to provide a high standard of clear, concise, written and verbal reports in English
  • Good teaching and presentation skills
  • IT skills

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of EBP pertaining to the specialist area of physiotherapy
  • Knowledge of Key national guidelines and standards pertaining to specialist area
  • Understanding of clinical governance and its implication for physiotherapy
  • Awareness and understanding of NHS structure, current issues and developments
  • Understanding of the legal responsibilities of the profession
