Are you an optometrist who enjoys working with children and are looking to extend your skills to work in a busy hospital environment? Do you have an ability to work alone and as part of a team? If so, we have a great opportunity for someone who wants to combine working in a dynamic busy outpatient clinic with effective work life balance in this part time role.

  • Carry out various ophthalmological techniques in the role of a Paediatric Optometrist.
  • Work with Orthoptists to plan, assess and implement treatment for individual patients.
  • Make decisions and offer advice about the optometric care of a child as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

A unique experience working as part of a multi-disciplinary team working in a district general hospital. We have regular teaching sessions and support for CET/CPD activities and opportunities for training others too.

·        To work closely with clinicians in order to deliver a comprehensive range of optometric services to the highest standards of quality and care.

 

·        To assess, diagnose and manage the treatment of patients referred to the paediatric optometry service and other core optometry clinics where required.

 

·        To act as a source of expertise on the optical management of ocular motility and vision development disorders to patients, carers, consultants and other health professionals.

 

·        To participate in the delivery of highly specialist ophthalmic services that meet

the changing needs of the department.

 

·        To work as part of the multi-disciplinary team consisting of Ophthalmologists, an Optometrist, Orthoptists, Nurses, HCA’s, Secretarial and Medical Records staff.

 

·        To participate in research and clinical audit as required by DCH Ophthalmology service.

Education, Qualifications & Training

Meini prawf hanfodol
  • BSc (Hons) Ophthalmic Optics or Optometry (2i or abve) & completion of 12 month clinical postgraduate training post & achievement of all General Optical Council competencies as asessed by the College of Optometrists
  • Registration with the General Optical Council (GOC)
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
Meini prawf dymunol
  • MOptom (master of Optometry) specialist optometry degree, achieving all General Optical Council competencies (Desirable)
  • Independent Prescribing qualification (DipIP) (Desirable)

Knowledge & Experience

  • Hospital ophthalmology clinical attachment or experience elsewhere
  • Community optometry experience
  • Sound clinical experience and judgment underpinned by specialist theoretical knowledge base
  • Ability to interpret diagnostic tests including OCT scans and images

  • Experience in the development and implementation of evidence-based practice and knowledge of ophthalmology disease including use/development of protocols to ensure appropriate, specialist care is provided for improved patient outcomes
  • Teaching experience

  • Ability to undertake highly accurate record keeping using paper and electronic systems
