We are seeking a full time Lead Data Engineer to join our innovative and responsive Business Intelligence and Population Health Service. This is an exciting opportunity to join a team that helps to shape and monitor health services to meet the evolving needs of an Integrated Care System for the population of Dorset. You will play a pivotal role in leading the team that designs and delivers innovative solutions to underpin analytical change to the benefit of both workforce and patients.

As we develop and work as an Integrated Care System (ICS), the Dorset Intelligence and Insight Service (DiiS) are changing the way partner organisations share and use their data to shape health and social care and improve outcomes for the population of Dorset.

The team works closely with its partners in the wider Dorset Integrated Care System, and you will have the chance to interact with other development teams, work on joint initiatives, and be part of a thriving professional community.

This role represents an excellent opportunity for development with a huge scope to really make a difference to the way we deliver services in Dorset and to hugely impact outcomes for patients.  The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate a confident, flexible, pro-active and responsive approach combined with the resilience to deal with shifting priorities and demands.

The technologies used by the team are diverse, and the post holder should be prepared to use the right tool for the job. The type of skills relevant to the role are (but not limited to) … SQL, Azure, Azure Data Factory, SSIS, Azure DevOps, Git, Power BI, Scrum, Kanban.

The work of the team is broad and varied, and in an ever-changing health and social care landscape a pragmatic and flexible attitude is essential. The team supports many disciplines – clinical systems, business intelligence, operational systems, integration, support, infrastructure, and more. The post holder will get involved in all areas of the team’s work, and continuously inspect, adapt, and evolve.

Working within the Dorset Intelligence & Insight Service (DiiS) and Dorset County Hospital (DCH) you will be instrumental in the design and delivery of Dorset's approach to population analytics.  You will be working collaboratively with system stakeholders ensuring that analytical programme plans are developed, maintained, and delivered.

Education & Qualifications

  • Educated to a master’s level in computer or information science, or equivalent level of experience of working at a senior level in a specialist area.
  • Recognised qualifications in MS SQL Server technologies.
  • Evidence of continuous personal and professional development.

Experience

  • Proven experience in developing large scale ETL solutions.
  • Knowledge and experience of developing and implementing Power BI reporting solutions.
  • In depth knowledge of data warehousing theory and methodologies.
  • In depth knowledge and skills in data modelling, and database architecture design.
  • Good understanding of Data Quality and ability to develop data quality reporting mechanism.
  • In depth knowledge of data warehousing approaches and the technical functionality and underlying technology required to achieve these.
  • Experience in interpreting Local/National/Regional policies to design and implement solutions and services.
  • Experience in developing and implementing technical standard policies such as ETL frameworks and standard documentation.
  • Experience of undertaking research into emerging technologies and horizon scanning .

SKILLS, ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE

  • Have a strategic vision and be able to articulate that vision to staff and colleagues.
  • Willingness and ability to share knowledge/train staff to a high level in their area of specialist knowledge.
  • Must have the ability to communicate/translate highly technical information into an understandable format at all levels throughout the trust.
  • Demonstrate skills in written and spoken English to a standard which enables the post holder to carry out the full range of duties and responsibilities of the role effectively.
  • Evidence of demonstrating the Trust’s values and behaviours.
  • Subject to the provisions of the Equality Act, able to travel using own vehicle on Trust’s business.
