Job overview
To support the Trust agenda in meeting national and local targets in infection prevention and control ensuring the highest quality care with dignity and respect to patients, staff and visitors, driving adherence to the principles contained within the Health and Social Act, code of practice on the prevention and controls of infections.
Main duties of the job
- The job holder will be required to develop close working relationships with the Infection Prevention and Control Team, Consultant Microbiologists, Microbiology Team as well as the nursing, medical and facilities team throughout the trust and the wider Integrated Care system.
- To provide specialist advice and support to clinical teams working in the Trust to ensure adherence to good practice in infection prevention and control issues.
- To act as a specialist advisor within the Trust, utilising and disseminating specialist skills and knowledge to all staff groups, patients and visitors.
- To participate in local and national audits.
- To be visible and accessible to staff, patients and visitors acting as a role model at all times.
- To participate in the development of training programmes and deliver training as required to Trust staff.
- To lead the daily organisation of the service in the absence of the lead specialist nurse and /or the Director of Infection Prevention and Control.
- To support the delivery of the IPC optimisation plan and IPC board assurance framework.
- Promote professional practice and ensure all staff comply with relevant legislation and trust polices.
- To support the delivery of the IPC work programme and antimicrobial stewardship programme (AMS)

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse/Healthcare Professional- registered with Nursing and Midwifery Council/recommended professional council
Desirable criteria
- Teaching /assessing/ mentoring qualification
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
Essential criteria
- Evidence of working in the Acute Hospital setting at Band 6 or above
Desirable criteria
- Experience as Infection Prevention Link or demonstrates an interest in the speciality
- Evidence to teach in a variety of settings.
- Promotion of best practice through Clinical Governance mechanisms
SKILLS & ABILITIES
Essential criteria
- Understanding of Microsoft programmes
- Demonstrate ability to use own initiative
- Provide advice over the telephone
- Motivated and able to motivate others
- Knowledge of the key professional issues and NMC guidelines relating to professional practice
- Good presentation skills
Desirable criteria
- Demonstrates data collection, validation and analysis
- Evidence of applying current research to practice
- Demonstrate ability to manage difficult situations effectively
