Are you looking for a new, exciting and challenging role working as part of a proactive education team whilst supporting staff to develop in practice?

The Education, Learning and Development department at Dorset County Hospital has an excellent career development opportunity for the right person to take up the post of AHP Practice Education Facilitator Band 7

The post is part time 30 hours a week and is fixed term or secondment for 12 months.  

We are looking for a highly motivated, professional and well organised individual who has the required skills and knowledge to work alongside our Lead Practice Education Facilitators, the post holder will be required to work alongside learners in clinical practice as well as delivering training and offering pastoral support to individuals, managers and teams.  

The role will be supporting AHP development with a focus on 4 key work streams;

Support worker development

Undergraduate education

 Preceptorship

Post graduate education/training needs analysis

The successful candidate will report to the Head of Education, Learning and Development and be professionally accountable to the AHP strategic lead.

Developing and maintaining high quality education, learning and development is one of our key priorities and the practice education team play a key role in ensuring that these standards are met. The post holder will also require strong effective communication and interpersonal skills, and a drive for innovation and improvement.

Main duties of the job

  • To support the Education, Learning and Development function within Dorset County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
  • To take a strategic role in enhancing the capacity, capability and quality of the education for all AHP health care staff, in partnership with key stakeholders
  • The post holder will lead on the delivery of specified undergraduate and post graduate AHP education
  • The post holder will support the Trust in meeting its responsibilities in the development of AHP support workers
  • The post holder will contribute to the delivery of educational programmes.
  • The post holder will contribute to the Trusts completion and compliance of the National Education contract with Health Education England.
  • The post holder will contribute to the organisation wide annual non-medical Training Needs Analysis
  • The post holder will be an active participant in relevant operational/strategic committees as required within the remit of the post.
  • The post holder will contribute to other educational activity as appropriate.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with Universities, Trust staff and professional bodies to implement and contribute to achievement of the national education contract with Health Education England.
  • Contribute to the development, organisation and governance of relevant clinical practice
  • Work in collaboration with the practice educators responsible for support worker development and the widening participation co-ordinator to design and implement an AHP support worker programme inclusive of onward career development opportunities.
  • Provide support to all AHP undergraduate students ensuring that the quality standards for all learning environments are met including appropriate supervision in practice.
  • Contribute to the delivery and design of the preceptorship programme for all newly registered AHP staff and monitor its effectiveness.
  • Support managers in identifying the continuing development needs of their staff and developing their Training Needs Analysis (TNA)
  • Work collaboratively with the workforce planning lead on the development of new roles aligned to workforce plans and future service requirements within AHP services (Advanced and Enhanced practice)
  • Monitor and coordinate the allocation of funding against the training needs analysis for AHP staff.
  • Produce reports for the People and Culture Committee, Operational Education group and NHS England to monitor educational activity for the organisation.
  • To support the Education, Learning and Development function within Dorset County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
  • Represent the Trust at national and regional Education, Learning and Development events.
  • Network locally, regionally and nationally with peer groups to support the sharing of best practice.
  • Act as an expert resource for clinical education supporting clinical practice educators through an education forum.
  • Promote effective communication and partnership relationships with education providers.
  • Promote, develop and implement Trust policies and procedures.
  • Design, deliver and evaluate training that has been deemed appropriate to be provided within the organisation

Education, Qualifications and training

Essential criteria
  • Educated to masters level
  • Minimum of 3 years post-qualification clinical experience at a band 6 level
  • Registered Allied Health Professional
  • Recognised Teaching or Education qualification.
  • Evidence of recent CPD
  • Up to date professional HCPC registration

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge and Understanding of AHP undergraduate and postgraduate curriculum and pathways
  • In depth understanding of quality assurances processes to support learning in practice.
  • Experience of supporting both undergraduate and post graduate learners in practice
  • Experience and understanding of the Learning Needs Analysis processes
  • Experience of facilitating change.
  • Experience of staff management / supervision
  • Experience of developing and implementing education programmes.
  • Knowledge of national and local education drivers.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of report writing
  • Evidence of an ability to facilitate, critically analyse and implement research and audit processes.
  • Knowledge of HEE Education budgets

  • Evidence of ability to work as a proficient Practitioner.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with staff at all levels, patients and the public.

  • Working understanding of undergraduate and postgraduate education pathways.
Desirable criteria
  • Working understanding of Apprenticeships
  • Working understanding of the National Preceptorship framework
