Are you looking for a Deputy Head Role (Band 7) with a specialist area of refraction? Working in a united team of Orthoptists, Optometrists and Ophthalmologists in one of the most beautiful parts of the country?
You will join a team of 6 Orthoptists, 5 Optometrists, and 15 Consultants - several of which have a specific interest in Paediatric Ophthalmology, Neuro and adult motility, and Oculoplastics. This role will involve performing refractions in joint clinics (under the heading of the paediatric consultants), and responsibility for audit of this paediatric refraction service.
You will join a busy team working across the 2 main hospital sites, treating the full Orthoptic caseload. You will have access to joint consultant, optometry and other specialised clinics, along with an extensive stroke service. We are currently developing an Orthoptist ACP role in paediatric ophthalmology, neurology and Emergency eye services. Experience in any extended roles would be beneficial, but not essential as training will be provided. We also provide significant support for the Stroke service both as inpatient and outpatients services, across both Bournemouth Hospital and Poole Hospital.

Main duties of the job
Full range of orthoptic services, including stand alone Orthoptic clinics, joint paediatric refraction and joint consultant ophthalmology clinics. Ocular motility and Thyroid clinics, and regular Orthoptic undergraduate clinical placements. The successful candidate will be required to work across these 2 hospitals, and possibly other community locations that we provide services for.
Car driver / owner essential
This location provides life by the sea, as well as other picturesque locations nearby such as the Jurassic coast and the New Forest
Rota: a 9 day fortnight available

Cases of all ages, for orthoptic assessment , diagnosis and management and onward referral.
Assessment of Stroke patients.
Supervision as Lead Clinical Tutor for undergrad orthoptic students from UCL, Liverpool and Sheffield.
Supervision of all staff within orthoptic cost centre
