An opportunity has arisen for an Primary Care Mental Health Support Worker in Bournemouth Central Primary Care Network.
You will provide additional care and services across the Bournemouth Central Primary Care Network patient population. You will be required to work with patients and, if appropriate, their carers, before or after the patients consultation with a clinician or other healthcare professionals. This role provides the opportunity and time to use your skills to develop rapport and trusting relationships with patients, which is at the core of the team’s approach.
The role will entail working under the direction of the Mental Health Practitioner and support in all activities relating to the delivery of client focussed care, carrying out brief screening, assessment tools, planning and brief psychosocial interventions for people with a wide range of mental health issues across the Primary Care Network.
You will also work in conjunction with the Mental Health Practitioners, to provide self-management interventions to service users with mild to moderate anxiety and depression, helping to develop interventions which are group based, providing psychoeducation on stress, anxiety, depression, and emotional wellbeing.
Main duties of the job
Promote Recovery and Social Inclusion, working within the parameters of legislation, policy and procedures and respecting diversity
Enable service users to make lifestyle changes by means of behavioural change techniques.
Work collaboratively with identified local partners, including Primary Care, Secondary Care and VCSE partners.
Raise awareness of Mental Health conditions, promoting healthy living and compassionate communities
Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team within Primary Care.
Be actively engaged in, and contribute to, evolution of services, with respect to increasing demand on General Practice and the need to provide a safe and equitable service for all patients registered at the practice

Knowledge, Skills and Training
Essential criteria
- Relevant qualification for the role equivalent to (but not specifically) QCF Level 3 in Health & Social Care.
Desirable criteria
- Additional coaching or therapeutic qualification. For example: Integrative, Systemic, Person Centred, Psychodynamic, Cognitive Behavioural and/or Coaching qualifications.
KNOWLEDGE
Essential criteria
- Familiar with the aims, objectives and ethos primary care and the PCN
- Knowledge of the issues of supporting people with a range of mental health issues, including risk assessment.
- Knowledge of the Mental Health Sector and the Dorset framework
- Knowledge of the Mental Health Sector and the Dorset framework
TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES
Essential criteria
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 applications, email, use of the internet and social media
- Ability to deliver the service as a standalone intervention and provide psycho-educational skills to enhance maintenance of wellbeing using resources provided.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, able to work with others as a team.
