An exciting opportunity is available within Torbay & South Devon Foundation Trust to become a key member of the operational management team, as a B5 Practice Manager.  

This is a full-time position, but consideration would be given to a reduced/condensed hours contract.   

Working within Long-term Conditions which comprises of:  Cardiology, Dermatology, Diabetes & Endocrinology, Long-covid services, Nephrology, Neurology & Neurophysiology, Respiratory & Rheumatology, the successful candidate will be able to contribute to several key areas and develop their own knowledge & skills. 

Main duties of the job

The initial focus for the successful application will be to lead and manage the Cardiac Catheterization Lab and Cardiology Diagnostic pathways.  Supporting the delivery of safe, patient centred, high quality services achieving key performance targets -ensuring work schedules are efficient, reporting robust information and utilising all resources as productively as possible.  The role will lead and develop a team of Admin & Clerical staff and deal with operational issues on a daily basis. 

The ideal candidate will be ambitious with excellent communication and engagement skills and have experience of leading staff, delivering targets, and dealing with day-to-day operational issues.  Experience in making improvements or running projects would be helpful but having the mindset of continuous improvement is vital. 

This post will provide an opportunity to pursue a career in management, develop existing skills and learn about the Medicine specialities and how they provide patient care.

The Cardiology department at Torbay Hospital is based across two units. The Heart & Lung Unit, and the Cardiac Catheter Suite. 

The Cardiology team are made up of 10 Consultant Cardiologists, 2 specialist registrars, specialist nurses (Arrhythmia, Heart Failure, Chest Pain and Cardiac Rehab), specialist cardiac physiologists.

 This multidisciplinary team is supported by our Admin & Clerical team consisting of our Admin Team Leader, 1 Waiting List Coordinator, 7 Medical Secretaries, and 10 secretarial Assistants (covering secretarial support, clinic typing, cath lab waiting office and reception). You will be joining a supportive and dynamic team, who are committed to continue to improve the service for 

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

At a time of change within Cardiology Services across the wider Devon region, this role will help identify improvement opportunities and lead on smaller change initiatives, so an opportunity to develop personal skills in service improve and project management will be possible.  This aspect of the role will support the delivery of a collaboration programme between TSDFT and other Trusts within Devon.
