Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon - Hand & Wrist surgery
NHS Medical & Dental: Consultant
Job overview
Due to expansion of services, an exciting new opportunity has arisen for a dynamic, innovative and forward-thinking full-time Consultant in Trauma & Orthopaedics. A subspecialist interest in hand and wrist surgery is essential.
The successful applicant will also work in partnership with the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital hand service. The RD&E offers an internationally recognised combined orthopaedic and plastic hand surgery service, and, depending upon the experience and clinical requirements of the successful applicant, is where we anticipate that a proportion of clinical work and/or networked decision making will be undertaken by the post holder.
Main duties of the job
The majority of your clinical time will be spent at Torbay Hospital, providing both sub-specialist hand and wrist services as well as general trauma & orthopaedic cover. In addition, a further part of your time will be spent in the Orthoplastic Hand Unit at the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital, to aid in the delivery of networked MDT care as part of a recently established regional service. You will be providing hand surgery expertise and general skeletal trauma services to our population.
Working for our organisation
Torbay Hospital is a highly regarded DGH both locally and nationally, which sits within the Coastal Integrated Service Delivery Unit and has a proven track record for service innovation, modernisation, and progressive change, including leading work around day case surgery provision. Torbay and South Devon NHSFT is recognised as a health community which has achieved considerable advances in patient care due to our model of integrated working and good relationships with our community partners. The successful applicant will be working closely with the hand and wrist surgical team. At present this includes one other consultant hand surgeon, hand therapists, specialist hand & wrist physiotherapists, and surgical care practitioners.
We are situated in a very beautiful part of the country in the South West of England with a favourable mild climate close to both sea and moors. Opportunities for outdoor activities both on and off the water abound, with easy access to mainline train travel.
