Senior Therapeutic Radiographer - Band 6 – Fixed Term for 9 months- 37.5 hrs
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced radiographer to join our dynamic team here at Torbay Oncology Centre. You will be HCPC registered. This is a fixed term position to cover a career break.
You will have a professional and practical attitude, working with confidence increasing your experience with advanced techniques and technologies.
Torbay has a Support and Information Radiographer, Urology Specialist Radiographer, Gynae Specialist Radiographer and Research Radiographer in post. Radiographers have also undertaken Independent prescribing.
Hours of work may be flexible, and will reflect the needs of the department. The person appointed will be required to work shift patterns to cover extended working days, machine service days in addition to bank holidays
The department has two Elekta Versa HD matched linear accelerators, Pinnacle 3D planning system, and a dedicated wide bore CT for treatment planning with 4DCT.

Main duties of the job
To provide safe and accurate highly specialised radiotherapy planning and treatment to patients to a broad range of tumour sites.
To support the team leader in the day-to-day management of patient workflow, assisting in the organisation and management of the clinical workload.
This post is competency driven across treatment delivery
There will be a requirement to work flexibly as the service demands.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
· Responsible for the management of the daily workload on the linacs, deputising for the team leader when necessary · Assesses patients’ suitability for treatment on a daily basis · Participates in Multi-disciplinary team meetings as required · Brachytherapy and mould room support is provided by Exeter under an SLA. Robust lines of communication are in place for a continuous service · Ensures the safety of patients, visitors and staff · To be responsible and accountable for own actions in accordance with the Radiographers Professional Code of Conduct · To ensure that in all aspects of the work the adequate care and well-being of the patient is taken into account · Take individual professional responsibility for the accurate delivery of radiotherapy treatment ensuring that the requirements or IR(ME)R 2017 Ionising Regulations 2017 (IRR17) are complied with · Provides advice and information to patients relative to tumour site and method of treatment in order to minimise the risk of side effects developing and provide information on how to deal with these should they develop, referring to the wider MDT as appropriate · Works with colleagues to include research radiographer and physicists in evaluating and developing working practice, new treatment techniques, care strategies and options for new equipment in order to reduce delays in treatment and improve patient care and outcomes · To assist in the preparation and update of documentation in accordance with ISO9001:2015 within the Quality Management System · Comply with all treatment related record keeping as specified in the quality assurance documentation and reports any error or near misses using electronic reporting system in-line with Towards Safer Radiotherapy 2008 · Ensures that a permit to work is in place and undertakes daily quality assurance checks on the accelerators before bringing into clinical use each morning in order to ensure the safe and accurate delivery of treatment · Acquires transit dosimetry data for treatment verification · Individual’s Personal Development Plan to be discussed and agreed · Undertake any additional duties which may become necessary to maintain or improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the service · Work within operational hours 08:00 – 20:00 · Bank Holiday Working |
