Rheumatology Lead Nurse

Job overview

The Lead Clinical Nurse Specialist, will provide leadership to all staff and manage available resources, for the provision of care to our patients.

They will provide specialist clinical advice, regarding the service and treatment provided. They will be up to date with all the latest protocols and NICE guidelines involving Rheumatological diseases.

The Lead Nurse will lead by example and empower staff in their personal and professional development. They will encourage the nurses, to undertake a greater range of clinical skills, to improve patient care and improve accessibility to the team.

They will liase with all the multi-disciplinary team and communicate effectively and professionally. They will be able to work autonomously, independently manage the nurses off duties/ Annual leave and sickness reviews.

Main duties of the job

  • They will hold regular nurse meetings, to discuss any new changes, in drugs,or new procedures, within the rheumatology department. To help maintain a good working environment in which patients can receive a high standard of care. They will attend weekly Biologic meetings and monthly Business meetings and participate, when needed.
  • They will provide regular Audits to improve the patients journey. They will need to be adaptable and forward thinking, as things change very quickly in Rheumatology. They will need to be able to attend F2F clinics as well as hold educational meetings.

Rheumatology is a branch of medicine dealing with the diagnosis and  treatment of long term rheumatological diseases. Which can be very complex in nature. We treat these conditions with DMARDs and Biologic medications, which need careful monitoring, to ensure patient safety.
