Job overview
To support the transformation of our HR service and development of our Employee Relations service by providing specialist advice to managers on employee relations matters including under performance, sickness absence, disciplinary and grievance cases.
To work within Trust policy, values, employment legislation and best practice, to ensure that appropriate solutions are applied to support the achievement of Trust objectives.
To create and deliver skills training programmes for line managers including facilitating and evaluating sessions.
To support the ER Officers with more complex matters, where appropriate.

Main duties of the job
Provide specialist advice and support to line managers on the management of attendance including:
- Advice and guidance to Managers on all aspects of attendance management in accordance with Trust policy and employment legislation
- Support for line managers to conduct attendance reviews including final stage, as appropriate. Advice on referrals to and reports received from Occupational Health
- Consideration and advice on redeployment, ill-health retirement or termination of employment whilst being mindful of employment legislation and Trust policy
- Monitoring monthly attendance reports to highlight hotspot areas and provide tailored support in to managers in these areas
- Provide specialist advice on the application of the Trust policy regarding grievance, attending formal meetings and appeals, as appropriate.
Provide specialist advice and support to managers throughout the Disciplinary Process.
Provide specialist advice and support to managers regarding the implementation of organisational change, including (e.g. internal restructure or TUPE):
- Provide specialist advice and support to managers regarding the application of the Improving Performance Policy, including:
- Provide advice and support to line managers at the informal and formal stages of the process, supporting in formal meetings as appropriate
Provide support to the ER Officers and where necessary, escalate to the ER Team Leaders or ER Service Manager.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Provide and receive complex, sensitive or contentious information where persuasion, negotiation and empathy may be required
Ensure that own work load is managed and planned in accordance with Trust standards, schedules and deadlines
To be responsible for identifying employment risks to the organisation and promptly flagging them to the Workforce and OD Practitioner/Business Partner
Ensure that all cases are managed sensitively and appropriately, in accordance with internal standards

Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
- • Degree or equivalent level of ability gained through vocational experience
- • Knowledge of specialist HR topics to postgraduate diploma level acquired through degree and professional HR qualification or equivalent level of training experience
- • Excellent working knowledge of employment law
Desirable criteria
- • Corporate CIPD membership (MCIPD)
- • Able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of NHS terms and conditions of service
