Job overview
We are currently seeking a Band 6 Charge Nurse/Sister to join our team at the Emergency Assessment Unit (EAU). EAU4 is a fast-paced and welcoming unit that sees a high volume of patients requiring short-term (24-72) treatment. With a capacity of 24 patients, EAU4 operates under Acute Medicine and we are looking for a dedicated nurse to provide top-quality care to our patients.

Depending on your level of experience, training and support will be provided to help you succeed in this role. This is a great opportunity to gain valuable management experience and further develop your clinical and professional skills with the guidance of our experienced Band 6 team and Ward manager.
As the Band 6 Charge Nurse/Sister, you will be responsible for overseeing shifts and providing support to the nursing staff. Join us at EAU4 and make a difference in the lives of our patients.
Main duties of the job
- To work as part of a team both on the ward as a band 6 Sister / Charge Nurse, but also with other multidisciplinary colleagues to ensure a seamless delivery of service
- To co-ordinate the ward to maintain flow and the patients journey
- To assess the care needs of the patients and their families. To support the team to develop, implement & evaluate the care to a high standard, whilst demonstrating a compassionate nature and maintaining patients dignity
- To participate as a skilled member of the multi-disciplinary team
- To act as clinical advisor on nursing issues to ensure a high-standard of care is maintained utilising evidence-based practice
- To participate in direct care and to facilitate sound discharge planning
Working for our organisation
We are a busy unit and consists of 24 bedded emergency assessment unit. The ward admits patients of all specialities referred from ED and AMU such as Cardiovascular, Respiratory, Gastroenterology and Chronic Health conditions but predominately medicine and has a high turnover on each shift. Staff are also exposed to managing patients with a higher acuity at times on the unit.
We are looking for an experienced, motivated and forward-thinking senior nurse who is keen to embrace the challenge acute nursing brings.

Qualifications and training
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse with current NMC Pin number
- Proven relevant experience at Band 5
- Evidence of continual professional development
- Experienced in giving IV medications
Desirable criteria
- Urgent Care knowledge and experience

- Safe and competent practitioner aware of own limitations and needs
- Experienced in giving IV medications
- IT skills to include data entry, Microsoft word etc.
