We have an exciting opportunity to appoint 18.75 hrs Band 6 Specialist Diabetes Dietitian into a permanent role in our team.
This is an ideal opportunity to develop new skills if you have not worked in diabetes before, or enhance some skills you may already have. You will be well supported by an experienced MDT of diabetes dietitians, nurses and doctors, and offered mentoring and CPD opportunities.
Our dedicated Multi Disciplinary team of dietetic led clinics support a range of specialist diabetes areas including Type 1 and Type 2 patients, lipid service, antenatal clinics, insulin pump clinics, diabetes self management education and transition service.
Main duties of the job
You will provide up-to-date nutritional management for people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes, and gestational diabetes, pre-diabetes, lipid disorders and weight management needs for Torbay and South Devon. In outpatient, inpatient and educational settings
To teach and support other members of the Endocrine service (e.g. Diabetes Nurses) and other healthcare professionals working in endocrinology and diabetes, diabetes prevention and weight management.
You will contribute to the wider development of the dietetic service and nutritional provision within Torbay and South Devon working closely with the Band 7s in weight management and diabetes.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Excellent verbal, written and electronic communication skills are required to establish and maintain working relationships.
Engagement with patients, relatives and carers, individually and in groups, in a variety of community and clinical settings, using a range of communication formats, including virtual platforms.
To work with the Diabetes team in planning, delivering, developing and
auditing the diabetes education programmes.
To provide education for patients individually and in groups in both secondary and primary care settings.
Responsible for providing highly developed and complex clinical and
nutritional information to other members of the multidisciplinary teams.
To provide an inpatient dietetic service for patients with diabetes working in close liaison with the Diabetes Specialist Nurses.
To promote the role of the dietitian in the management of patients with
diabetes, lipid disorders and obesity both within the hospital and in primary care.

attendance at courses/conferences as agreed with the Diabetes Team and
the wider dietetic department.

Qualifications and training
Essential criteria
- • Degree or equivalent in Nutrition and Dietetics
- • HCPC registration in Dietetics
- • Evidence of post graduate study in diabetes and/or obesity
Desirable criteria
- • Teaching post graduate qualification
- • Member of a specialist group of BDA e.g. Diabetes / Obesity / Mental Health / Paediatrics
- • Behaviour change training
- • Group facilitation training
Knowledge and experience
Essential criteria
- • Post qualification experience
- • Autonomous practitioner
- • Experience to date must include some diabetes and obesity dietetics
Desirable criteria
- • Advanced clinical skills including experience of delivering Type 1 diabetes structured education and managing people with diabetes using insulin pumps
- • Experience of clinically supervising other dietitians working in diabetes and weight management
- • Ability to carry out research and to interpret the research of others
- • Experience of developing a service or planning and delivering health promotion initiatives

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
