Extended Scope Physiotherapist

University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust is looking for an experienced, dynamic and enthusiastic Band 7 Physiotherapist to join as a split post between our Orthopaedic Team as a Foot and Ankle Extended Scope Practitioner (0.4WTE) and MSK Team Lead Physiotherapist (0.6WTE) within the outpatient physiotherapy team. The postholder will work with the existing consultant workforce providing parallel and standalone foot and ankle clinics, administration time and have the consultant support. The physiotherapy MSK outpatient service for Plymouth and South Hams (Kingsbridge and Tavistock) is hosted by the acute trust but provides the service at various locations across the Plymouth and South Hams region. This post is currently based 0.4WTE static within Orthopaedic department and 0.6WTE within the Outpatient department at Derriford Hospital and rotates through peripheral clinics. Clinical
- To be professional and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of your own work including the management of patients in your care. Working as an autonomous practitioner. To ensure a high standard of clinical care for the patients under your management and support other staff to do likewise.
- To develop and agree protocols with consultants for use in this specialist role and design patient information as required.
- To work as a member of the multidisciplinary team
- To undertake the comprehensive assessment of patients, including those with a complex presentation, using investigative and analytical skills, and to formulate individualised management plans.
- To accept clinical responsibility for a designated caseload of patients, and to organise this effectively and efficiently with regard to clinical priorities and use of time. To record and evaluate clinic throughput and outcome.
- Liaise / advise other clinical/medical professionals working with this care group in order to maintain / improve standards throughout the Trust.

- To demonstrate highly developed dexterity, co-ordination and assessment skills to form appropriate treatment programme of patients.
- To provide spontaneous and planned advice, teaching and instruction to patients, relatives, carers and other professionals (including GPs), to promote understanding of the aims of the pathway, and to ensure a consistent approach to patient care.
- Use an extensive range of verbal and non-verbal communication tools to communicate effectively with MDT/patients/carers; to motivate, gain co-operation, to implement, progress rehabilitation and treatment programmes. This will include patients who may have difficulties in understanding or communicating; e.g.: patients may be dysphasic, depressed, deaf, and blind or who may be unable to accept diagnosis, or realistic expectations of their orthopaedic care.
- To assess capacity, gain valid informed consent and have the ability to work within a legal framework with patients who lack capacity to consent to treatment.
- To adhere to all Trust and CSP policies and Code of Conduct.

- Extensive demonstrable post graduate experience of skill within the Orthopaedic foot and ankle service across all specialities.
- Previous demonstrable experience working at a senior level within field of MSK outpatient care, with broad / complex caseload.
- Proven evidence of leadership and team working abilities

- Proven evidence of involvement with research. Ability to apply research to practice.
- Proven evidence of specific post graduate foot and ankle courses.
Qualifications

- Degree (BSc Hons Physiotherapy) or equivalent.
- HCPC registration.
- Computer Literate

- Leadership qualification.
