Team Leader- Physiotherapy Outpatients

University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust is looking for an experienced, dynamic and enthusiastic Band 7 Physiotherapist to join our highly regarded musculoskeletal (MSK) Outpatient physiotherapy team. The physiotherapy MSK outpatient service for Plymouth and South Hams (Kingsbridge and Tavistock) is hosted by the acute trust but provides the service at various locations across the Plymouth and South Hams region. This post is currently based within the Outpatient department at Derriford Hospital and rotates through peripheral clinics. This post also has the potential to participate with the wider band 7 central and peripheral rotations through Kingsbridge and Tavistock in the future.

The successful candidate will join a well-established team to support, deliver, develop and promote this service across the local Healthcare Community. ***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as ‘Priority’ and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.***

 

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

Undertake a team leader role, with support from the Deputy Out-patient Physiotherapy Manager and Head of Physiotherapy in planning, co-ordinating, delivering, developing and evaluating the Physiotherapy Service provided to out- patients (musculoskeletal), on a day-to-day basis.

Provide a high level of clinical leadership to a designated physiotherapy team and more junior staff in the department. Ensure governance agenda is delivered in line with trust structure.

To provide clinical leadership and expertise, with respect to MSK outpatients within the trust in liaison with Deputy Out-patient Physiotherapy manager and other clinical specialists.

To hold responsibility for leading and managing the outpatient team on a daily basis, with support from the Deputy Out-patient Physiotherapy Manager and Head of Physiotherapy.

To supervise/performance manage all staff line managed by this post, inclusive of the clinical education and management of physiotherapy students.

To take a major role in the advanced assessment and treatment of patients within the speciality who may have complex and/or chronic presentation, and to determine clinical diagnosis and physiotherapy treatment indicated, and to maintain records as an autonomous practitioner

To undertake evidence-based audit and research projects to further own and team’s clinical practice.  Make recommendations to clinical lead/manager of service for changes to practice by the team.

Clinical 

  1. To be professional and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of your own work including the management of patients in your care. To ensure a high standard of clinical care for the patients under your management, and support more junior staff to do likewise.
  1. To interpret and analyse clinical and non-clinical facts to form accurate clinical diagnosis and prognoses in a wide range of highly complex conditions, to recommend the best course of intervention, and to develop comprehensive management plans.
  1. To represent the trust externally (locally, regionally and nationally) regarding physiotherapy services provided to patients with musculoskeletal conditions.
  1. To undertake the comprehensive assessment of patients, including those with a complex presentation (of a wide range of Musculoskeletal and occasionally respiratory conditions), using investigative and analytical skills, and to formulate individualised management and treatment plans, using clinical reasoning, and utilising a wide range or treatment skills and options to formulate a specialised programme of care and to support junior staff in this work
  2. To accept clinical responsibility for a designated caseload of patients, and to organise this effectively and efficiently with regard to clinical priorities and use of time.
  1. To demonstrate highly developed dexterity, co-ordination and palpatory senses for assessment and manual treatment of patients.
  1. To participate in working parties developing policy changes within outpatient specialities, which will impact on all service users.
  1. To ensure, as team leader, that designated staff implement policy and service development changes.
  1. To work with consultants and head of service in developing the strategic and operational management of the physiotherapy service.
  1. To provide spontaneous and planned advice, teaching and instruction to patients/relatives, carers and other professionals, to promote understanding of the aims of physiotherapy, and to ensure a consistent approach to patient care.

  • Extensive post graduate demonstrable experience across all specialities. Previous demonstrable experience at a Senior level within field of outpatient care, dealing with broad / complex caseload. Proven evidence of leadership and team working abilities
  • Proven evidence of Leadership and team working abilities.
  • Proven eidence of Appraising and supervising junior staff / students.
  • Proven evidence of Teaching
  • Proven evidence of CPD and relevant post graduate training and integrating EBP into current practice.
  • Clinical educator course
  • An awareness of current NHS and Health issues related to MSK Out-patient Care.

  • Previous working at Band 7 level within MSK.
  • Demonstrable experience within acute NHS environment

Qualifications
