This is a really exciting time to join the Trust

If you are an enthusiastic, motivated EEA Qualified Pharmacist who would like the opportunity to develop their clinical skills and join our team of Clinical Pharmacists we would love to hear from you.

Successful candidates will join the team as an AfC band 5 transitional pharmacist & will receive a Structured Competency Based Training & Development Programme to support you through your transition period (3 to 6 months) & be salary matched to AFC pay band 5. There will then be a guaranteed opportunity to remain in the department as a permanent band 6 as part of our PROPEL Programme if you successfully complete the required training competencies within 6 months of joining.


Upon joining, candidates will gain a wide range of experience in various clinical specialties Medicines Information, Aseptic & patient services alongside completing a funded diploma in clinical pharmacy .


•    Providing pharmaceutical care to patients from admission to discharge 
•    Participating in the multi-disciplinary team at ward level.
•    Day to day working with the Medicines Optimisation Technicians
•    Providing prescribing advice and support to medical staff.
•    Educating patients about their medicines.
•    Participation in Quality Improvement & Audit

1. EEA Qualified Healthcare Professionals as UK registered pharmacists to join the pharmacy team as an AfC B& 5 transition pharmacist to undertake:

Structured Competency Based Training Programme for 3-6 months

Participate in a locally designed education & training programme & other activities to develop knowledge & skills in line with the professional standards set by the GPhC

Aware of & work within University Hospitals Plymouth procedures, policies accepted standards of practice, relevant legislation & regulatory 

Undertake mandatory training deemed necessary to the role

Provide delivery of patient care & pharmaceutical services under supervision

2. Following completion of the 6-month Competency Based  programme to join Band 6 to Band 7 PROPEL structured rotational development programme to undertake the following duties:

Participate in defined & structured core or specialised rotations across a variety of settings within pharmacy & clinical specialities.

Undertake fully funded further study e.g. Diploma/Certificate in Clinical Pharmacy Practice & Non-Medical Prescribing.

Participate in the delivery of a high-quality clinical pharmacy service ensuring the safe, effective, & economical use of medicines

Provide expert advice on medications to staff across the organisation.

Provide practice supervision of pharmacy staff & other healthcare professionals

Undertake audits & engage with the Department’s Quality Improvement projects.

Participate in the on-call & out of hours service

Band 5 transition pharmacist:

•    To develop knowledge and skills in line with the professional standards set by the GPhC 

•    To participate in a locally designed and structured competency-based education and training programme and other activities covering – clinical pharmacy services, dispensary services, medicines information and aseptic services 

•    To undertake any mandatory training as deemed necessary to the role and be aware of any relevant procedures, policies accepted standards of practice, relevant legislation and regulatory necessary to the role

•    To provide delivery of patient care and pharmaceutical services under supervision

•    To participate in weekend, bank holiday and late duty work rotas as required

•    To be responsible for self-directed learning as part of a commitment to continuing professional development

PROPEL Programme (Plymouth Rotational Opportunity for Progression through Experience & Learning)

Band 6 Rotational Pharmacists:

  • Guaranteed progression to Band 7 role after 18 months (subject to competency milestones)
  • Fully funded Certificate in Clinical Pharmacy- with protected study time
  • Undertake 3-month core rotations including: Mixed Medical Admissions, Mixed Surgical Care, Healthcare of Older People, Generalised Paediatrics, Aseptic Services, Clinical Screening and Medicines Information
  • Work laptop and mobile phone
  • Support and mentoring by experienced pharmacists
  • Relocation packages offered dependent on eligibility

Band 7 Rotational Pharmacists:

  • Ready to apply for Band 8a roles within 18 months
  • Fully funded certificate in Diploma Clinical Pharmacy- with protected study time
  • Undertake 6-month core specialised or optional specialised rotations including: gastroenterology, paediatrics and neonatal medicine, neurology, cardiology, respiratory, microbiology, critical care, urgent & emergency care, clinical trials, cancer services and aseptics, hepatology, patient safety, governance and formulary, clinical academic & research
  • Work as part of wider MDT's with involvement in audit, change management, quality improvement projects, supervise others, formulary review and medicines optimisation.
  • Upon completion of diploma fully funded Non Medical Prescribing or other further study e.g. MSc
  • Relocation packages offered dependent on eligibility

Qualifications

  • Current registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
  • Registered pharmacist within an EEA county
  • Completed an appropriate pharmacy course within an EU Country

  • Proven evidence of Continuing Professional Development
  • Registered member of Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS)
  • Annotation as a non-medical prescriber, or working towards this
  • UK accredited MPharm degree, OSPAP qualification, or equivalent

Knowledge and Experience

  • Have completed an appropriate pharmacy course and have experience of working as a pharmacist in the EEA country which you completed your qualification or are registered

  • Demonstrable experience of UK hospital pharmacy
  • Previous demonstrable experience of hospital based practice
  • Good proven understanding of the role of a UK hospital pharmacist
  • Foundation training year (previously pre-registration) undertaken in secondary care
  • Training in medicines information
  • Proven general pharmaceutical & proven clinical Knowledge
  • Provision of ward based Clinical Pharmacy Services
