Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work within the REI Day Case Unit. This role includes preparing patients for surgery, admitting and  discharging them home. To carry out pre op assessment clinics   and  ophthalmic related investigations. 

***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as ‘Priority’ and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.***

 

Main duties of the job

Within the REI Day of Surgery Unit we deal  with all aspects of eye surgery . We have a very enthusiastic team who are welcoming and always eager to help. In house training is provided for the right candidates. Please feel free to pay us a visit and the staff will answer any questions you may have . The vacancy is full time which at the present means 5 shifts a week .Ophthalmic experience is not essential but some knowledge is desirable. Please see attached job description. Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To assist in the delivery of care planned and assessed by Registered Nurses

  • To carry out care under indirect supervision.
  • To assist in Pre-operative assessment for Ophthalmic Surgical Patients
  • To admit and Discharge patients coming for Ophthalmic procedures.
  • To carry out role related clinical investigations.
  • To undertake specific extended skills

Person specification

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrable experience of providing care in a healthcare or social setting
  • Demonstrable experience of time management and prioritising work

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Level 3 (SCQF – 6), City and Guilds 3, NVQ 3 in relevant subject, BTEC National Diploma or equivalent demonstrable experience.

Aptitude & Ability

Essential criteria
  • Effective and appropriate communication skills both written and verbal
  • Able to complete appropriate documentation accurately
  • Able to demonstrate calm, caring patient manner / attitude
  • Flexible and adaptable to change, able to work a range of shifts and moving across wards/unit dependant on clinical need
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision to a high standard
