Associate Healthcare Scientist

We are looking for 2 fixed term Healthcare Scientist Assistants at band 4 level to integrate into the Histopathology team and to lead on the CVLP clinical trials project.  There will also be elements of the role where you will support the Organ Retention laboratory team and other Clinical trials.  These roles will act as key members of the full team and have responsibility to be the points of contact for the trials across the Pathology network which also includes the collation and presentation of key data.

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

  1. The post holder will work together with the senior staff in Cellular and Anatomical Pathology to produce a timely, high quality, accurate and cost effective service.
  2. The post holder will assist in the timely processing of tissue and other biological specimens submitted for examination, typically 40,000 per annum. 
  3. To lead on all aspects of CVLP testing, including laboratory examination, preparation, sending away process, reports and data collection.  To act as point of contact / lead for region on CVLP
  4. To support Clinical Trials for the department
  5. To work within Organ Retention team

Undertake duties in the Histology laboratory and assist in the preparation and processing of a wide range of biological specimens

Undertake routine and non-routine technical and clerical duties within all sections of Histology

To support Organ Retention by being one of a number of named staff rotating into the area.

To act as lead for CVLP / CPGC testing, data collation and management of such work including technical aspects for processing.

Assist in the maintenance and running of any laboratory equipment as directed.  This will include maintaining cleanliness to the necessary standard, discarding waste chemical solutions, replenishment of fresh solutions and use of the instruments.

Qualifications

  • NVQ3 or equivalent science based qualification or demonstrable experience of a wide range of histological procedures / laboratory techniques

  • Biological science degree

Knowledge & Experience

  • Familiar with medical terminology utilised during specimen dissection
  • Good IT skills with proven knowledge and demonstrable experience of databases/excel/word
  • Demonstrable experience of a computerised Laboratory Information System (LIMS)

  • Demonstrable data entry or handling experience
