Are you an experienced health and safety leader looking for a new and exciting opportunity?
As the Health and Safety Manager at South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust, you will be responsible for providing specialist professional advice whilst coordinating health and safety arrangements for the Trust, reporting directly to the Head of Health and Safety.
The post holder will provide the necessary leadership to support and embed health and safety matters within the Trust and will lead and deliver on agreed work plans through leadership and management of a team of subject matter experts. The post holder will ensure high quality delivery of this work, helping the Trust to achieve an environment that is safe and secure for staff and patients.
This role requires technical skill but also involves building great working relationships and positive health and safety cultures with managers and staff across our diverse organisation; working with them to resolve issues and advising and guiding them on how to work more efficiently.
The right candidate will have extensive experience at a management level working in the health and safety field and will be able to demonstrate excellent people management skills. Experience of effectively managing a team is essential.
The location of the role is flexible and the successful candidate can be based anywhere within the Trust's geographical area.

- Develop and present complex reports on health and safety performance
- Develop, deliver and monitor health and safety objectives, leading multiple work streams simultaneously
- Develop health and safety policies and procedures
- Undertake thematic reviews and audits on the health and safety management system
- Provide leadership and management to a dynamic team of professionals
- Identify health and safety risks, ensure plans are implemented to manage them

Essential Criteria

- Educated to master's degree or equivalent, with relevant significant post qualification knowledge acquired through professional experience.
- Significant experience in a similar senior health and safety management role in a healthcare environment or equivalent complex organisation.
- Fire safety qualification.
- Chartered Member of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (CMIOSH).
- Training qualification.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Formal management and/or leadership qualification.
- Significant experience in the line management and leadership of a team and ability to lead a team effectively.
- Experience in writing and producing concise and accurate reports.
- Experience of management of budgets and service contracts.
- Experience in managing projects.
- Experience in completing complex risk assessments and accustomed to supporting effective risk management.
- Experience of developing, implementing and monitoring health and safety policies and procedures.
- Proven change management experience.
- Experience in dealing with challenging issues, taking a problem solving approach to support effective resolution.
- Experience of working with large incident reporting databases for audit, analysis of trends and complication of reports.
- Effective negotiating and influencing skills and ability to develop and maintain constructive relationships with professional and managerial disciplines.

- Member of the Institute of Fire Safety Managers (MIFSM)
- Other recognised health and safety qualifications.
- NHS experience.
