Job overview

Do you have  passion for patient safety? An exciting secondment opportunity has arisen to join the Patient Safety Team at University Hospitals Derby and Burton NHS FT, as a Deputy Head of Patient Safety.

We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated practitioner, committed to patient safety to support and facilitate delivery of patient safety agendas.  The role including managing the Patient safety Team, supporting and facilitating leads  for Falls and Sepsis/Deterioration. The role includes supporting continuous learning, improvement and safety culture.

 

Main duties of the job

This role will support the strategic and operational delivery of the patient safety agenda in line with local strategies, as well as national guidance/ strategies. The Deputy Head of Patient Safety will be responsible for leading workstreams within the portfolio, working with other leads/managers to deliver on improvement projects. You  will undertake the role of Patient Safety specialist, alongside other Trust Patient Safety Specialists supporting implementation of the NHS Patient Safety Strategy (2019).

The Deputy Head of Patient Safety will have responsibility for leading and managing the patient safety team, inclusive of falls, deterioration and sepsis, to support delivery of continuous learning and improvement.

The post holder will support the embedding of a safety and just culture within the organisation, through engaging and involving staff, patients, and relatives, identifying themes and trends to support learning from incidents.

The post holder will work with the Trust Human Factors Lead Clinician, to  support embedding of Human Factors within UHDB.

The Deputy Head of Patient Safety will be a credible leader, knowledgeable with the confidence and interpersonal skills to work with internal/external colleagues, providing direction, advice and support.  You will be required to deputise for the Head of Patient Safety in a professional or managerial capacity as required. The role will work closely with corporate and divisional teams.
