Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Senior Healthcare Scientist within the Royal Derby Hospital's  Pharmacy Quality Assurance Laboratory. 

We believe that every member of the Pharmacy Quality Assurance team working for us plays a key role in providing quality patient care and well-being by striving for excellence in aseptic services using unique skills.

We’re looking for a experienced and committed individual who shares our values and wants to invest in continuously improving patient care.

Hours of work will be Monday to Friday 9am to 5.30pm 

Main duties of the job

You would be responsible for the performance of technical duties associated with all testing programmes relating to Pharmacy aseptic services, Wholesale Dealing and Trust Nuclear Medicine services. 

Participating in the testing services provided to Pharmacy Aseptic Services and Wholesale Dealing activities, and to Trust Nuclear Medicine facilities that dispense radiopharmaceuticals for the diagnosis or treatment of patients.

  • Ensures compliance with the principles of GMP and MHRA. 
  • Assists the Pharmacy QA manager
  • Supervises QC staff
  • Ensures review and sign of  laboratory documentation.
  • Coordinates laboratory workload in conjunction with the Deputy QA Manager
  • Writes and approves procedures
  • Perform final release of specials licensed batches. 
  • Leads on training of staff. 
  • Lead on species identification service.
  • Participates in the pharmaceutical microbiological, air quality and equipment testing.
  • Carries out sterility tests.
  • Participates with other staff in the maintenance of the laboratory, equipment and records.
  • Temperature mapping and temperature distribution checks.
  • Risk management issues within the section, such as Health and Safety, COSHH and Infection Control.
  • Management of departmental documentation.
  • Makes decisions involving the day to day running of the service and delivery of staff training.

  • Science Degree

Experience

  • Appraisal and supervisory experience
  • Microbiological expertise to degree or equivalent level through experience and training
