Job overview
University Hospitals of Derby & Burton are seeking to recruit a Consultant Clinical Oncologist, who together with 17 other Consultant Oncologists will provide a comprehensive service for the people of Southern Derbyshire and East Staffordshire.
We are looking for a Clinical Oncologist with an interest in Lung, Gynae and/or CRC, however there could be some flexibility and we would be more than happy to discuss this.
The posts are based at the Royal Derby Hospital with work at Queens Hospital Burton which provide Cancer Services for the population of Southern Derbyshire and South East Staffordshire.
The Cancer Business Unit is proud to offer high quality clinical care within flexible and sustainable job plan structures. We positively encourage part time working and are happy to recruit less than full time candidates to complement our existing medical team. If your preference is for less than full time hours, we are happy to discuss further.
Main duties of the job
The appointee will be responsible for:
- Provision of a comprehensive service in Oncology with consultant
colleagues, including new patient and follow-up clinics at Derby and
Burton. The Department also undertakes a variety of joint clinics with other specialties. - Provision of emergency cover and reciprocal cover for your consultant colleagues during reasonable periods of leave, on a shared basis. This will include care of patients and supervision of junior doctors.
- The care of patients in their charge and for the proper functioning of the Department
- Undertaking teaching/training duties as required and actively
participating in the postgraduate and undergraduate teaching programmes - Participating in clinical and medical audit and actively contributing in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance
- Actively participating in continuing medical education (CME)

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Possession of FRCR or equivalent
- Evidence of entry on GMC Specialist Register OR Have CCT or be within 6 months of attaining CCT at time of interview OR Evidence that the GMC is processing the Specialist Registration application (MUST be provided prior to interview)
- Full GMC registration with a licence to practice
- MBBS or equivalent
Desirable criteria
- Additional higher medical/ scientific degree
Experience
Essential criteria
- Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCT in Clinical Oncology
- Evidence of ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team and share clinical responsibilities
- Experience of Research
Desirable criteria
- Experience of clinical responsibility above SpR grade
- Peer reviewed publication
Knowledge
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of Oncology within UHDB
Management and Admin Experience
Essential criteria
- Commitment to Continuing Medical Education and the requirements of clinical governance
- Experience of, and commitment to, Clinical Audit
Communication
Essential criteria
- Experience of formal presentations

- Experience of presenting at National / International conferences
