The Preterm Birth Midwife will work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team and will play a key role in co-ordinating the care and support of women who are at increased risk of preterm labour, with suspected or confirmed preterm labour, or having a planned preterm birth (i.e. due to fetal growth restriction, pre-eclampsia or other clinical reason).

The Preterm Birth Midwife will participate actively in local and regional networks, teaching, and research to improve education and implementation of Preterm Birth pathway. They will also work closely with the MVP & parents’ network to co-design services to ensure that pathways are supportive and equitable for women and families accessing maternity care at UHDB.

You will work closely with neonates becoming part of an MDT reviewing and audit all cases of preterm births against the KPI's, feeding back learning and creating action plans.

This role will support all of the maternity services on different sites. A key priority of this role will be to work with the neonatal and obstetric team on improving preterm optimisation and implementation of the PERIPrem passport.

  • Work in collaboration with the Midwifery Matrons, Specialist Midwives, Obstetricians, Neonatal teams and the Local Maternity and Neonatal  System (LMNS), to improve compliance with expected standards outlined within the SBLCB (V3), MIS and the maternity services local improvement plan (MIP).
  • To work with the MDT and wider teams to gather and analyse local and national data related to identified standards and support the development of actions to promote positive and sustained improvement.
  • To produce and present accurate written reports and action plans, providing evidence and assurance  to the senior team on progress  or barriers affecting compliance with each standard.
  • Represent the maternity services and Trust at relevant internal and external professional meetings, forums and networks, contributing to shared learning opportunities
