We are seeking an inspirational and experienced midwife to undertake the role as the Director of Midwifery at the trust. As the Director of Midwifery, you will be the most senior midwife at the trust and you will provide leadership that creates a positive culture of safety, learning and support that is underpinned by the trust's values.

As professional midwifery lead, the Director of Midwifery will advise the Executive Chief Nurse and the trust board on all midwifery aspects and will provide strategic, professional leadership and advice that ensures a strong focus on professional midwifery matters and maternity service delivery.

The Director of Midwifery will lead on the delivery of national maternity requirements ensuring the vision, and strategic direction of the trust are integrated in the delivery of improving outcomes and experiences for women and birthing people using our services.

The Director of Midwifery will actively establish and build a wide range of effective networks, contacts, and partnerships within and external to the Trust which are used to inform and influence improvements in service delivery and outcomes.

The Director of Midwifery will work with the Divisional Director, Divisional Medical Director and the Divisional Nurse Director for Paediatrics, neonatology, and gynaecology to ensure the service meets all external requirements relating to Maternity services in relation to national plans, MSSP, CQC, MIS and MNSI

Facilities

We have three wards across two sites, with a total of 88 beds for antenatal, postnatal and induction of labour. 

At Royal Derby Hospital, we also have:

•           17 delivery rooms including one pool room and bereavement suite

•           Four bedded Midwife led birth centre

•           Four bedded Obstetric HDU and a two bedded assessment bay

Queen’s Hospital Burton has seven delivery rooms including one pool room and one bereavement suite.

 Where we are now

We want to provide the highest quality, safest care and best experience to every woman and babies in our care. We have acted with openness and honesty when we have got things wrong and proactively requested and welcomed reviews into our services - including from the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

We are making progress, but we absolutely know that we must go further, and the role of the Director of Midwifery is pivotal to improving and sustaining the highest levels of safe care and experience.

Qualifications

  • Registered Midwife with evidence of sustained personal and professional development
  • Post graduate leadership qualification or relevant experience
  • Extensive experience of working at senior leadership level in a complex maternity and Trust environment
  • Experience of leading organisational / service changes to deliver improvement
  • Experience of working at a senior level across organisational boundaries
