Job overview

Following the Derby and Derbyshire ICB staff restructure, an important role have become available within the Pharmacy Directorate Team, which is part of the Medical Directorate. Supporting the Heads of Pharmacy for Policy, you will be providing senior level pharmaceutical technician assistance within the new Pharmacy Team into our next chapter as an ICB, working across the system to deliver the functions of the Pharmacy Directorate Team. 

We are seeking an experienced and talented Pharmacy technician to support the work of the Pharmacy Directorate and Medical Directorate in delivering high quality, safe and effective pharmaceutical care within Joined Up Care Derbyshire.

Candidates must hold professional registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) as a pharmacy technician and have the relevant post qualification experience in primary or secondary care.

Main duties of the job

  • Supporting Care Delivery and Health Equity:
    • Collaborate with the Pharmacy and Medical Directorates to ensure high-quality, safe, and effective care across care pathways within Joined Up Care Derbyshire.
    • Focus on Population Health Management, prevention, and reducing Health Inequalities.
    • Promote evidence-based and cost-effective use of medicines in various settings to enhance patient care.
  • Project Management and Communication:
    • Contribute to scoping and developing pharmacy and medicines projects.
    • Coordinate data analysis and prioritisation.
    • Ensure effective planning, management, and delivery of tasks/projects.
    • Lead initiatives related to pharmacy safety and efficiency.
    • Facilitate communication and stakeholder management both internally and externally.
  • Data Analysis and Reporting:
    • Analyse and interpret prescribing information.
    • Extract key insights from data analysis.
    • Make recommendations based on findings.
    • Prepare and present prescribing data reports at various levels (ICB, Trusts, PCN, etc.).
  • Resource Targeting and Assurance:
    • Support resource allocation, monitoring, and evaluation.
    • Provide high-quality support, including complex information and analysis.
    • Contribute to the development and management of systems ensuring pharmacy and medicines delivery meets standards set by the ICB and NHSE

NHS Derby and Derbyshire ICB is responsible for planning and commissioning a wide range of health and care services for the whole of Derby and Derbyshire. These include GP and primary care services, hospital care, community healthcare and mental health services. Working within the newly formed Pharmacy Directorate Team (PDT) you will be a key part in helping us shape how we work now and in the future to improve the health and wellbeing of our population.

Please note: If required we may be able to consider a change of base location to  NHS Scarsdale in Chesterfield for the right candidate.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Maintain constructive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Participate in complex, sensitive, and political working groups/projects.
  • Collaborate with team members to develop accurate data collection systems.
  • Communicate information, risks, and dependencies to project teams.
  • Analyse specific projects/reports in detail.
  • Update and organise information for future needs.
  • Monitor risks and contribute to performance management.
  • Review clinical intelligence data to highlight unwarranted variation in medicines and treatment pathways.

·        Test and review new concepts, models, methods, practices, products, and equipment.

·        Support implementation of modernisation, service improvement, and other strategies.

·        Lead projects related to pharmacy and medicines, focusing on safety and efficiency, including the uptake of biosimilars for high-cost drugs.

·        Coordinate prescribing data for Pharmacy Directorate Team assurance and reporting.

·        Propose changes to own project/function, informing policy.

·        Contribute to reviewing and developing existing information management systems.

·        Foster an integrated approach to project management.

·        Implement the ICB strategic medicines safety plan, monitoring high-risk prescribing using digital solutions.

  • Educated to degree level in relevant subject or equivalent level of experience of working at a similar level in specialist area

  • Knowledge and experience of prescribing reporting and analysis using data sets and information systems such as RightCare, EPACT2, OptimiseRx, Eclipse Analytics, Open Prescribing and PrescQIPP;
