Job overview

We are looking to recruit to the post of Head of Nursing and Quality role in the Derby and Derbyshire Integrated Care Board (ICB).

 

The role is responsible for the oversight of quality and safety of commissioned services in Derby and Derbyshire, providing assurance on all aspects of quality and safety in the system and working with Healthcare Providers of NHS care and the improvements required.

 

The role will manage the Acute Quality Team, and Patient Safety Team who have portfolio areas across acute services, and patient safety across the Derbyshire footprint. 

 

Applicants will need to have a background in quality assurance and improvement and experience of working across different sectors of health and social care.

 

This is a wide and varied role that will involve working with multiple partners across health, social care and the third sector and will require you to be flexible in your approach and adaptable. 

 

The role sits as part of the Nursing and Quality Directorate Portfolio within the ICB and is open to candidates with a clinical and professional background.

 

Main duties of the job

The Post Holder will lead on workstreams within the ICB agendas of patient safety, quality, and support the development of the safety and quality strategy, with link to other Directorates to capture aspects of safety, clinical effectiveness, patient experience to support the governance, assurance and improvement processes.

The post holder may be required to work at any establishment at any time throughout the duration of their contract, normally at a location within the Joined-up Care Derbyshire footprint, or as set out under the terms of their contract.

Education, Experience and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • NMC Registration;
  • Educated to masters level or equivalent level of experience of working at a senior level in specialist area;
  • Evidence of post qualifying and continuing professional development;
  • Developed communication skills for delivering key messages to a range of stakeholders both internal and external (including outside the NHS) to the organisation, some at very senior level;
  • Good presentational skills for conveying complex concepts; with the ability to work without supervision providing specialist advice to the organisation, working to tight and often changing timescales.
Desirable criteria
  • Patient Safety Qualification
  • Knowledge of financial systems e.g. monitoring budget management, processing invoices and procurement;
  • Ability to identify risks, anticipate issues and create solutions and to resolve problems in relation to project or service delivery;
  • Ability to understand a broad range of complex information quickly and making decisions where opinions differ/no obvious solution.
  • Must have an understanding of the background to and aims of current healthcare policy in the area and appreciate the implications of this on engagement;
